I had to go to a place downtown, and normally hate parking, but found a cool spot in a mostly empty lot.

So far...

I started the process of reinstalling my head. I thought I was ready to put it on the block til I remembered I had heater hoses I needed to deal with, so today was spent buttoning up and cleaning hard heater lines. The jury is out on whether I will reconnect the rear heat, but once the head is on, those connection points are all but inaccessible, so I made sure they were all good to go, whichever direction I go with the heater in the long run.

Tomorrow, head gasket, head, torque other such things... (and more unnecessary ellipses)

Last last weekend did front axle refresh with new seals and bearings. Last weekend did rear U-joints and top end refresh (valve cover gasket, distributor gasket/rotor/cap, plugs, wires, small coolant hoses, etc. This weekend did cooling system refresh (wp, thermostat, hoses, phh, modded blue hub, etc.) and oil pump cover gasket/crank seal. My body aches but I have a mechanically sorted 80 now.

These look really good. Huge PITA to fit? I'm missing one of my OEMs and I want to replace them with something, there are a couple of options, but these look solid.

Man I'm ready for time with my 80 to look more like this, ⬆️ and less like this ⬇️

Recently Headlights will turn on but would not turn off. I have had the Slee light harness for around ten years which utilizes 2 30a relays. Started there and that was it! Lucky for me this could have been more complicated, from the threads I’ve read!

Man oh man,

FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY.

The head is on and torqued (WITH WASHERS!!), cams are in, and cam caps are torqued. My level of satisfaction knows no equal right now.

This is where I started this morning. This is a 255,000 mile engine, and can we take just a minute to admire that crosshatching? Dang Doc T...

Tomorrow, exhaust manifolds on and torqued, lower intake manifold on and torqued. I'll wait to finish the intake, as I (shockingly) managed to damage a knock sensor, and it will be a lot easier to change them with all the stuff up top still out of the way. I had planned to cerakote the exhaust manifolds, but to be honest, I've gotten so good at putting them on, and taking them off, that doing it again for cosmetic reasons won't be a huge deal.
