Felt the beginnings of metal on metal this past week when braking. Ended up replacing the rear rotors and pads this past Saturday and all is better. Ended up using both Bosch rotors and pads as they had the quickest delivery from Amazon. Fit and finish is just fine. They stop well and are quiet 👍.

The fun part of the weekend was installing Milwaukee Packout tool boxes in the rear for tool/gear storage. They make a mountable baseplate that I screwed down to the top of my storage drawer. Keeps all my camping gear/food storage/air compressor kit organized and secure. The boxes all interlock and stay attached during normal driving/cornering. Probably wouldn’t survive a rollover but that is what the cargo barrier is for :). Very happy with the addition.

Yellr came in, wasn’t raining so I had a dry <1 banana job. Always been able to get the correct speedo gear in my other rigs, never used one of these before... what a neat little thing. Routed it over to left frame rail along hard lines, up into the hole next to brake booster, tucked comfortably behind trim.

That’s probably a better spot. I applied some dielectric grease and shoved it in between the gas tank and the gas tank shield...4 years ago.

Been hanging in the local club forum for a few months, but just spend the day catching up on this tread from the past 6 months.

Spent some time when lockdown started getting my son's 80 looking better. Someone backed into the LF bumper (or so he tells me) and jacked up the corner and the flare. Last straw was the white paint coming off every time you touched it and the 3-4 different shades of white it seemed to be.

Before:

Prep for paint. Found some damage to the front beneath the grill, so new parts there.

Decided to keep the running boards for now, so left them on, but disassembled them for cleaning prior to paint. You can see how the rear door looks like a different color.

Happy with the end result. New front bumper and corners. Silver accent stripe now.

Wheels painted to match bumpers and metal on outside of running boards. Put the center caps back on too.

No more mismatched door

Got him some LED tail lights with the LED reverse bulbs. New Land Cruiser emblem has since been installed.

Clear parking lights and turn signals up front with some updating to the grill and headlight trim. Need a new bumper mount on the drivers side, forgot to order one and painter put the old one back one.

Got in to do an oil change, while I was there I replaced the steering pump and gearbox and high pressure line.

Job went great until I found a blown TRE. When one is bad the others cant be far behind, so left the steering arm disconnected while I wait for parts.

Spent the long weekend up in Coyote Flat. Saw a number of 80's and 100's and a few forum members...good times.

The fires and smoke made for somewhat apocalyptic looking scenery, but absolutely beautiful sunsets/sunrises.

Got to pull test the welds on my 4x4labs kit bumper, thankfully it passed and I got the 2WD Xterra w/ my friends in it up to our campsite. (The owner is sending me ads for 3rd and 4th gen 4Runners...I think she saw the light...anything with a transfer case would be an improvement...though TBH I think her dollar would go further with a Montero or a 4WD Xterra, but hey...if I can keep my straps packed up neatly I don't care what she drives.)

Also it was my first trip trying out my new homebuilt water/propane carrier swing-arm as well as a bike rack that bolts into the spare tire arm. Both held up great, have a few tweaks to do on the propane holder but all in all quite happy with my DIY fab (I'm like a 4/10 on the fabricator scale so I take victories when they come.) Here's an unglamorous shot from airing up outside Bishop.

Now I definitely need to move on new suspension, my OME 860 coils were suffering with all the weight from the bumper, drawers, fridge, etc...hit the bumpstops more often than on any prior trip.

Wheeling seemed safe enough once things opened up again.

Did a green trail ride with some new local club members. PA isn't the scenic west, but the views aren't bad here either. These aren't the trails, they are access roads to get to the trails.

The paperclip cooler on my LX bit the dust years ago and I bypassed it, finally decided to replace it. New cooler from Summit Racing and some hose from Amazon. Drilled and tapped mounting holes and ran the tubing through the hole in the bumper.

Started looking at the LX and had a plan for some serious maintenance. It was leaking oil from basically everywhere. Jeez ... replaced the main seal.

Almost had a cry when this oil pump cover screw stripped. Left hand drill bit saved me and it broke loose.

Power steering pump was leaking and starting to groan at full lock, so out with the old and in with a new one.

It was already in the garage and making a mess, so pulled the trigger and kept going. Preemptive HG replacement. 282k on the clock on the factory PHH and HG.

No failure, #6 is just wet from me taking off the coolant hoses.

Threw our huskies and inflatable stand up paddle boards in the Cruiser, made for the Tobacco Roots and spent a day enjoying what feels like the last of summer up here with some friends, their doggo and their SUPs. Woke up today to sleet which turned to snow before my second cup of coffee.

Perhaps more importantly, I received this amazing magnetic beer coozie from the friends and can verify it’s a singularly genius example of a solution to a problem that I didn’t know existed. And now I need like a dozen more to give away as gifts.
