How long has that been sitting?

Well....that explains code 52 alright.
Say, how does the rest of the sensor come out of the plug on the harness? I see in the pic I have them reversed but ya get the idea. Having a rough time getting the rest of the sensor out of there.

Got it!

Started this. Head gasket. Debating pulling the engine and trans yo rebuild bottom end. Can’t decide.

Been awhile since being able to drive with no check engine light giving me the stink eye.

The bottom end is probably OK.
My brother said the same thing. So head gasket, all the other items now and get into the bottom end on next HG. Wow, that’s looking ahead. I’ll take your advice. Thank you.

Maintenance.

Exchanged 5 quarts of transmission fluid - preferred method: vacuum pump through dipstick tube.

Greased all u-joints and front double cardan. Used my M12 grease gun with Lock-N-Lube coupler.

good tools make life easier!

Well, I've had some surgery recently (pump broken) and still recuperating. Anyhow, my wife has to drive me around and I've noticed some tapping like noise from the engine bay. Figured maybe time for an oil & filter change, well, hoped that was all it was. Of course, I'm not in the position to do that, so waited till my younger son visited from college this w/end (my b/day).

So, after some of our other vehicles had some maintenance/repairs we got on to the 80.

Popped hood with engine running and it was external to the engine. Looked at belts and the 2 drive belts looked to be somewhat loose. One was frayed and clearly time to change belts.

So, remove AC belt and 2 drive belts. Hmmmm, I guess I've neglected work on our 80 for the past few years as I 'slowed' down. Anyhow, for your viewing pleasure, attached pics of the belts which NEEDED replacing a few years ago. I had kept the original belts that had maybe 5 yrs on them since they looked good when I took them off, that way we could do the job today versus having to get belts and my son leaves tomorrow (back to college).

Changed them out and funny, all quiet now :)

AC belt. Pretty (well, ok, VERY) nasty:

And yes, drive belts looking a bit worse for wear. This the 'inside' surface.

3 more weeks till I have all 'physical' restrictions removed due to my surgery. Looking forward to that date. Then I can get to maintenance that has been ignored for a few too many years.

At least fluids get replaced on schedule :)

cheers,
george.

Replaced the starter earlier this week. Checked/changed oil, diff fluids - front diff was ugly. hopefully I can get through the summer before a rebuild is necessary...

I haven’t driven her in weeks. Prepping for a week plus Death Valley/Owens valley trip near the end of the month.
