This weekend I was reminded that ice does not give a damn about you, your BFGs, your Full-Time 4WD, or your factory lockers.

Sunday, 2018-01-07, 11:15PM, Crestwood, KY.

Alone. On a slight, but what turned out to be iced covered, curve. Through someone's mailbox and into their front yard.

Shortly after I finished my 911 call, a pickup came around the same slight curve, 180'd while still on the road, and ended up backwards, in the ditch, against a fence, on the opposite side of the road. Except they stayed right side up. The first responding office almost lost it off the side of the road. Then another car almost hit the officer's cruiser, the officer (outside of his cruiser), and went into the same ditch as the pickup.

Eventually flipped her back over. Let her sit for a minute. Checked fluids. Started right up. The police, fire, and ems crews all got a kick out of that.

Couldn’t drive anywhere except the grass and up to the flatbed though. Punctured tire(s), cracked rim(s), separated and spidered windshield, etc.

Oh, and the moonroof came out, in one un-shattered piece (pictured), when I was slammed into and through it.

I remembered last night that I found my hat many, many feet back behind the cruiser. None of my windows were open prior. The moonroof was the only thing "open" after.

I'm fat (very), so your mileage may vary.

I'm also sore (very).

No local (Louisville, KY) body shop wants anything to do with me, other than glancing at it and saying “obvious total loss”. Which is in fact exactly what my usually first choice, and a State Farm Select Service, shop submitted to State Farm. Can’t even get a proper itemized estimate. None even seem willing to work on repairs with me paying out of pocket after buy back to achieve rebuild title.

I went with the Denso rebuilt 2.0 “cold climate” one from rock auto. It was priced well and most of the feedback here on mid was it was a decent route to go.

What were the symptoms of your starter that made you decide to replace it? Was it a kind of crunching sound like it wasn't engaging on first try perhaps?

Much like the sound of you try to start a car when it’s already running. It’s an indication that the contacts are worn and needs rebuilt. You can buy a rebuild kit and do it yourself and it’s not too bad but these rebuilt units aren’t much more than the rebuild kit.

It snowed agani here in GA, so I went out to check on the roads. Pulled a guy in a 2017 Lexus LS F Sport out of a ditch.. he had slid off the road going up a hill and hit someones mailbox. The Cruiser chugged away no problem.

Then I had a little meeting with a concrete wall. Was going down a steep hill (it was completely iced.. not your typical Georgia half-melted slush) probably around 30-35mph due to the hill. Hit a slight corner and the back end popped out. I was able to correct the slide, but that just spun me the other way (hooray for physics). Ended up doing a 180° on a bridge, jumped the curb, and hit the wall with my DS front corner (said wall would normally be on my PS). It’s a 93, so no airbags, thankfully...that would have been a mess. All in all, it held up nicely. Pics of the damage:

Place your Hi Lift jack inbetween the chassis and crank away...

Hauled the trailer(81bj60 frame and axle)and camper out of hunting area. First time with lockers. Up the sand hill with no problem. Coming down the icey north side was tough, trailer tryed to take me away just pushed me along then started to j knife. Had to accelerate down hill to straighten it all out got going abit too fast lol. Rest of trail was no challenge,just don't look back.

Yeah that's what mine has been doing for a couple years here in Minnesota when it's super cold. I guess I will fix it soon but for now I said F this winter and leaving next week to Thailand until May I'll be back just in time for spring/summer wheeling. Thanks!

Back visiting Karratha, and liked the flip up window I got last time so much that I was able to get one for the other side, makes it so much easyer to access the back with the twin wheel carrier and bike rack blocking the tailgate

Inasmuch as I am self-employed, I declared Thursday a weekend and LC maintenance day, and did an oil change and swapped diff and t-case lube, and gave all of the zerks some much needed love. I won't belabor the monstrously overtorqued fill and drain plugs, but I feel like I earned my Japanese 'shower beer' after dealing with that crap. Results = much smoother running rig and a serene sense of satisfaction...

I think I'm right with you. The last couple times I've moved the truck around it took a couple tries on the switch to crank over. Which one did you go with? I've been reading about them and would like to upgrade (I have the 1.4kw). I can get the 2.0 pretty easy but it seems the 2.2 is pretty unattainable nowadays (even when I look it up by the part number it comes back with the 2.0 automatically). I'll probably swap it when I do my knuckle service and PHH... Another $125

Pm @medtro i think he just posted a 2.2 starter for sale in the Copper State Cruiser clubhouse. He nay have more than one but I'm not sure.

Decided to take out the carpet to shampoo and pressure wash it. Depending on how it turns out, I may look into dying or spraying it. There’s some pretty nasty stains.

I also found 2 pens, 1 pencil, 5 paper clips, french fries, exo-skeleton of a lizard, chapstick cap, and $1.89 in change...not a bad haul

I think you will be surprised how well your carpet will clean up. I started with Woolite and then moved to concentrated Simple Green.

So I broke one of the fuel injector connectors, just the outside part. Am I totally fine to leave it or should I replace it? If replace, where can I get one? Tried finding the part but got lost.

You’ve probably already resolved this, but the connector is still available. It must be pretty standard as my local dealership had it in stock. I found the part number in a search.
