to be honest it was a deep ditch and trying to steer and climb I was afriad Id smoke birfields or worse. so winched away.

I 3-way lock it before I get into really bad mud and then I keep up my RPMs. If my rig slows down, I turn the wheel back and forth. It usually keeps me from needing my winch. With that said, there are times when the mud is so soft and deep that you immediately sink to the axles. In those instances, you aren't going anywhere without your winch.

Used some aluminum 2x1.25 C channel I had in my garage plus the tslot extrusions. Made a little guide for the holes and went to town!

At the end of the day this is what I ended up with.

It also worked out well doing it this way so I could use the front runner rack mounts that came with my awning.

I ended up spacing the crossrails 6 inches on center from the ends, and every foot from there. Vertical ones on the ends. I used the 51inch pre tapped t slot bars, so the overall width is 53.5 inches now. I just have to make a front wing for it.
Used the @reevesci gutter mounts again! Sturdy stuff, I can stand on it. I just have to paint the gutter mounts again since I scratched the hell out of them after handling them so much.

This was alot of work. But I like working on my stuff and tinkering. It is very fulfilling!

This would be a perfect setup for a hard shell RTT. Most of the small/standard size are 53" wide. Would still have room for your awning. I dig it!

I am going to try a standard RTT and see if the wife approves the whole climbing up and down. After that I may look at a hardshell for quicker easier setup. Now I just have to get stuff to stick up there.

 

[Broke it]

Replaced transfer case rear output bearing and seal. Greased up shafts and changed oil, 445k km’s. Diffs need love, rear drive shaft needs a re spline and front shaft needs a double carden joint.

Can't figure out from your pictures, but does it interfere at all with the open hatch? It seems too long in one of the pictures.

No, but I did mount it a couple of inches higher. The way I had it before the hatch would hit one of the rear bars. It would still be open but people around the 6ft mark would probably bump their heads. Now I think it will open better.

I am 5ft9 and I still have about 8 inches before I hit the hatch now. Works well in rugged terrain such as a parking lot!

They work fast, I ordered these on thanksgiving day, Friday morning they were shipped. I ordered a bunch of brackets and things to try out, I got a couple that were the right style, but wrong size. I sent him an email and early next morning I got a shipping confirmation that they were sent out! So customer service is good.

These extrusions are pretty strong, they have less flex than the Unistrut I was using. I think it is similar to what goosegear uses.

to me its destoyed Im still learning brother. the wheelbase was to long for this rock and there was no way to come at it from any other approach., Im trying this wasnt soup bowl, but it was still fun .

Installed a Uniden 510 in the ashtray slot similar to the Slee install that so many have posted up. Still have to hook up to the SWR meter and tune the antenna but the install went great.

Today is my 4 year anniversary with this cruiser. I brought it home 4 years ago. It’s been a slow work in progress and I have a long way to go. Graduated from college, changed careers, bought a house, and tons of other stuff during that time, and Drove it less than 9,000 miles. I should drive it more.
