So I was wiring up my lights for my rack the other night and realized I didn't have the pigtails for the switches I had nabbed from the junkyard. So I started panicking. I texted @NLXTACY who told me I was stupid and he'd help me figure it out. I called my local dealership and my parts lady there laughed and said "you aren't normal!"

I was feeling a little sick today so I decided to work from home. I picked up my new spare and had my five tire rotation done.

Then I swung by the junkyard and the 92 80 series which I had stolen nearly every part off of was still there! They took my son and I out to it and we cut the pigtails we needed then they took us to some early 90s Tacos and 4Runners. Picked up 4 more hazard switches and another defrost switch. And grabbed the washer bottle and bladder from the 92 to eventually put in to my 93. Total price $10!

junkyard shopping is my favorite.

The never ending debate of trailer vs tent. My happy medium was this.
full

I have had this same setup for years. It works fine, especially on really cold days. There is no wind if you don't crack a window. With a good sleeping bag it is nice and warm! Only downside is when you are hunting and have equipment you need to carry. In that case, I sleep on one side and all my gear goes on the other side.

I'd like to have a rooftop tent but I'll have to spend about $15K to alter my garage door and door fram so I can fit the roof top rack and roof top tent in the garage. I'll probably do it at some point but not right away.

So my Winter Edition was looking a bit sad in the paint department and I decided to give it a birthday. Kut Snake flares fitted and then dismantled the front panels and sent them of to paint. The rest of the truck is getting done when it is able to be off the road.

That's what the roof rack and under bed storage is for. I also have a trunk that attaches to the hitch in the back for extra storage. I have yet to find a tent that sets up as fast as a rear bed.

Getting ready for rainy weekend drives with some Rigid fog lights! They are street legal to boot! actually helps out a ton for lighting on the 80 when the weather isn't great. They have a great cutoff so they don't shine in other drivers eyes. For now they are mounted a little higher than I want/ at the edge of the legal limit, but they do work from there. I also have them aimed a little short, but until they are lower I don't want to risk blinding anyone. Build-2 by Nick, on Flickr

Really impressed with the Rigids. Just got mine on too with a license plate bracket until I pony up for a real bumper.

The kiddos love the pink paracord grab bars.

What did you mount the bottom to? My kids might appreciate this - and it might let me get rid of the stock running boards... Hmmm.
Just the seat bracket. The handles are for resistance bands and cheap wherever they sell fitness equipment. Unfortunately I still have some time before I can drop the running boards.

Thank you! One of mine isn't walking yet, I figure if I take them off before she can she will learn how to get in without them. ;) The others are either big enough or good enough climbers to make it (I hope). What's the point of all that gymnastics if they can't even figure out how to get in?

Finally got her broken in! For her birthday she gets a new fuel filter, fuel pump sock thingy, and a new front locking diff wiring harness!

Had problems keeping my iPad charged when I'd use GPS navigation apps on the trail so grabbed some of those 4.8A Blue Sea USB chargers. The one in the dash is tapped off the cig circuit and the one in the coin slot is always live. Also wired a couple more 12V sockets on each side of the shift console which are live as well. All this went to a newly added interior fuse block I installed under my seat. Totally works!View attachment 1359792
Damn clean 93! I noticed your hand held there. I think I have the same one. Do you have plans for attaching the charger/base to the shifter console? That might work as a cradle and better yet, if we had an inverter, the HAM could be charged on the run.

This is your 1FZ? Does this beast burn any oil? Has the HG been done? You are inspiring me here to have more confidence in my 93 I bought last winter. It has 271K, apparently burns no oil and runs like new. The HG was done in June of last year by a dealership up in Oregon where I bought it but I just don't have that much faith in even dealership work. I post this because we are planning a three week trip for next fall up to Glacier national park then Yellow Stone and hopefully on to Moab. A blown HG mid trip would suck! Maybe I'm gun shy because the 94 that I rolled had the engine rebuilt by a good shop 10k before I bought it. By the time the engine had 16K on it the HG blew at #6. The shop used FelPro galkets though so......... I could swap the engines easily but at 271K the engine I'm running is very solid. So, with your odometer at 328K and your up coming epic adventure I feel my confidence growing. Trusting other mechanics just ain't in my blood..

Yep. It the 1FZ-FE. She runs like a top. Burns a little oil but not a lot. I'be put 16k on it since I got it in March.

My understanding is that the PO did replace the HG when the radiator cracked and it overheated. I don't know for a fact though. The radiator is new though...

I'm not concerned about it on the trip. I figure that once I get past Nebraska,if it blows, I'll be within 200 miles of some skilled Mudders who will want to get their hands dirty! Hahaha.

Seriously though, not concerned about it. I'm more concerned about getting the front knuckles rebuilt before the trip. Running out of time!
