On topic-ish...

I flushed my brake system, again. Fluid is nice and clean now. The brakes are working better, but I feel they still aren't 100%. These 80's don't like to cooperate with vacuum bleeders, do they?

Also, I removed my front sway bar, to see what the driveability would be like without it. Drove 100 miles yesterday, out of the mountains, to the city, and back. Maintained 75 MPH on the freeway, while in the city. I think I'll just leave it off for good. It drove fine without it.

you can access this sight without paying. you just have to deal with less benefits and a lot of ads

Took it to dinner on Tuesday with no problem, then went to pick something up Thursday evening, and the starter wouldn't even click. I have a set of contacts in the toolbox all ready to go, so was thinking that might be my next step.

Didn't have the time to do anything until this afternoon, and first off checked the battery voltage. It only has 10 Volts?!!! Jumped it from the Camry and it fired right up. Let it run for awhile while I moved cars around and got it pulled into the driveway. Shut it off, then started it right back up. I'm wondering if one of the kids left something on, but for now I have it on a trickle charger.

Replaced LHS cv joint. The old one has been noisy for a while when cornering in low gear.

What the hell!!!?!! I leave for a few hours and you tear down the place.

Anyway, who was using the Seafoam in Sun Valley today?

Installed Yodateq Gullwings today. Easy job made even easier by the how-to Youtube videos that are available. I found that installing them on a warm day and allowing the rubber seal to lay in the sun awhile makes installation go easier. Quality of the product is excellent and have zero complaints other than the shipping box took a beating and I was pretty surprised there wasn't damage. I think some extra cushioning/packing material for such a heavy box(I ordered steel) is needed. Overall, very happy with the product!

YUP

If you take this little bit of tech/chat conversation away, what's left?

How about delegating all the "what did you do with your..." threads from all the forums here to chat. Just to be fair.

Edited for profanity

I would suggest the "keep it Tech" crowd suffer from a mild mental disorder which manifests itself in passive-aggressive behavior directed at things that really are not affecting them.

These sorts of folks make up a small, yet vocal percentage of folks who are active on internet forum. On the interstate, they are the same jerks who drive in the left lane of traffic either at, or below the speed limit "because it's legal" and they resent the fact that other people go faster than them.

I've been a member of various social fora since the ARPA/DARPANet. And have seen many destroyed by these "fine individuals" who, while technically correct, are substantially wrong, in their desire to prevent others from enjoying themselves and social interchange. I find The Series 80 Tech section to be an exceptional example of a social networking site, and this thread in particular one of the most enjoyable.

There's nothing wrong with moderation of personal attacks, cursing or straight up porn. Those things tend to drag a forum down. But something as ambiguous as "Tech?" Trying to moderate for "Tech" will outright kill a forum.

And, to make it relevant to the thread, this weekend, my wife and I drove to Laaber, and knocked out another section of the Main Donau trail. I was a little concerned about how the fresh paint on my wheel wells would hold up to driving the dirt roads to get to our staging point, but 24 hours is apparently good enough for bedliner to dry.

I think having a designated more lenient thread such as this in individual forum areas is a great idea. Whilst it should adhere to the tech section rules regarding language nsfw etc, I think it's a great place to brag about our rigs and Shoot the breeze. I find it relaxing to have a virtual arvo beer with you guys, while catching up with the happenings of like minded people who are mostly thousands of kilometres away. And without all the immaturity that goes down in chat.

And I think the ignore button is a wonderful feature. Never used it myself but if you don't like a particular persons post then just hit ignore, get on with your life and let us get back to our beers, bragging and possible tech.

And mods, thanks for your time and efforts.

Did you sand them first or otherwise do any prep?
Pretty much hit them lightly with some fine sand paper and painted. Might have spent 5 minutes sanding

Good open minded post, thank you for that

We generally don't read posts or even moderate threads unless they get reported. That forces us to read/review and then we have to update the reported post to show it was resolved or escalate it

There is a lot more chat in this section then there use to be. The rules, listed under the help tab at the top under terms and conditions state

"You are prohibited from posting any Content that is illegal, obscene, defamatory, infringing or otherwise objectionable. We reserve the right, but are not obligated to, moderate any and all Content on the Site according to Our own standards. However, the fact that We do not moderate certain Content is not an endorsement by Us of that Content. We have the right to enforce these Terms in any manner We deem appropriate, but We are not bound by any enforcement measures We may use."

We try and do our best and try to be consistent, but unless someone reports it, we often don't read most of the posts. We have jobs like everyone else here and when we come on we come to do the same thing you do, read other posts to see what is going on. Getting involved in reported posts is not something I enjoy.

Pictures of a woman, that lives in Hawaii, in a bikini, were deemed "objectionable" yet you have :moon: and :flipoff2: emoticons. Not to mention how :princess::rainbow: are used to mock people's sexuality. This is pretty rich.

:bang: emoticon might promote someone to commit self harm.

:slap: emoticon might promote violence or abuse.

:deadhorse: emoticon might promote animal abuse.

 emoticon might promote underage drinking.

:smokin: emoticon might promote drug use.

The ridiculousness of the hypocrisy of MUD is insane. For the record, I am not offended by any of the above emoticons and think they are all hilarious. When I've been offended I say something. And move on.

I've never reported a post on MUD. And never will. When that kid from California made an anti-gay post I didn't report him. Instead, we as a community slammed him. We slapped him upside the head and told him not to come on here and be an idiot. The community polices itself very well. And the evidence left behind is left there for future idiots to see and learn from. His post and thread were not deleted. This happened again about a week ago. Once again, it wasn't deleted. Was I offended? Yes. I said my piece and moved on.

And you say that you don't read posts or moderate threads unless someone reports it. I find that interesting. So, someone from our community took the time to report a post of mine with a political sticker in it. A post that was deleted within 2 minutes of being posted. Interesting.

And don't even get me started about the deletion of a charity thread after an idiot started mouthing off on it and making false, unfounded, out of line accusations. Instead of handling the individual the entire thread was deleted. A thread that had the support of many members of this community.

This is so :censor::censor:

@LS1FJ40 its because the adhesive is no longer holding the hood brace to the metal of the hood. Time to glue it down.

Hood braces all appeared to be secure to the hood. I put a pry bar and tried to pull them apart and no luck. I'm thinking it might be the rubber bumpstops. There is visible paint rub off where they hit the hood. I don't recall this on any other 80. I'll have to check my 92s to see...

My Silverado has done the same thing as long as I've owned it. I adjusted the "stoppers" (or whatever they're called, adjusters maybe?) and in order to get it tight enough, the body lines were way off. It had the hood pushed above the fenders. So I just backed it off and lived with it. Thinking back on it, I wonder if it's in the hinge. Get the stoppers to where the body line matches up and adjust the hinge down to put tension on it. I'll add it to my never-ending list :(

Sorry if my post that got deleted made you guys uncomfortable. I spend a good portion of everyday in a swimsuit and I'm from Hawaii, so I'm less uptight about that I guess. Didn't mean to offend. It's just if I do anything with my Land Cruiser, 90% of the time I am in a bikini since it's primarily used for exploring beaches, and this is the thread for what our weekend adventures were with our LCs. Again, sorry for any offense taken.

Seriously, people felt uncomfortable? Wow...

landcruiser80 is not alone. i go to this thread to see and read about 80 series land cruisers. not to see half naked women. when someone posts "that looks awesome" and i got back through two pages of the thread to find out and it's a half naked woman, then i end up reading 20 posts on how hot she was, i get both annoyed and offended. i ignore the pictures if she's with an 80 series land cruiser.

this isn't the boys club anymore. there are a lot of women on mud too. not all get offended, but i'm not the only one who's sick of it. and if i posted pics of half naked men on my pics, you all would have a hissy fit. if i wanted the kind of immature behavior that some of you are displaying, i'd go to chat or pirate.

and i spent my weekend sorting a 5lb bucket of freshly cad plated bolts, many for my 80, since it snowed here and i couldnt' change a leaky pinion seal.

Once again, generalizing and getting defensive. I could care less whether someone posts pics of a woman in a bikini or men in a bikini. If I don't like it, I move on. Personally, I don't give a :censor:.

There is way more anti-gay commentary on here than there is objectifying women. And NOTHING gets said about the anti-gay commentary by moderators. ZERO. NONE.

And for the record, the pictures were posted by the actual person. This wasn't gratuitous.

Some people...
