What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (79 Viewers)

I think it's time to split the rants to their own thread. Call the waa-mbulance, get an enema, and move on.

I drove my 80 this weekend and dreamed of mods to be. That's why I love this 20 year old rig, a little TLC and it just runs!

Who's the vocal minority now?

Please, give it a rest. The mods have their position and have been selected by the site owner to enforce that exact position. Call the people that took issue with the posts prudes all you want, but you guys whining about this in an attempt to change the moderators mind isn't helping anything. The dead-horse emoji comes to mind.

Hood braces all appeared to be secure to the hood. I put a pry bar and tried to pull them apart and no luck. I'm thinking it might be the rubber bumpstops. There is visible paint rub off where they hit the hood. I don't recall this on any other 80. I'll have to check my 92s to see...

My Silverado has done the same thing as long as I've owned it. I adjusted the "stoppers" (or whatever they're called, adjusters maybe?) and in order to get it tight enough, the body lines were way off. It had the hood pushed above the fenders. So I just backed it off and lived with it. Thinking back on it, I wonder if it's in the hinge. Get the stoppers to where the body line matches up and adjust the hinge down to put tension on it. I'll add it to my never-ending list :(

My 94 did this with all of the original panels, and still does with a different hood/fenders (but same core support and inner fenders.) I tried adjusting the stops up, but as @JaketheSSnake mentioned it just pushed the hood edges up above the fender lines.

The only way I could see to fix it was to move the hood latch down, but while it has a small amount of adjustment, it wasn't nearly enough to get the job done. This core support has had just a little bit of work done to it on the Passenger side due to a previous incident.. maybe that is a factor. For now I'll just live with the fluttering hood.

And you say that you don't read posts or moderate threads unless someone reports it. I find that interesting. So, someone from our community took the time to report a post of mine with a political sticker in it. A post that was deleted within 2 minutes of being posted. Interesting.

I said generally. We have full time jobs and like I mentioned this is a volunteer position. You are ranting against volunteers who give of their own time to help here.

I read posts/threads that interest me. If I see something I deal with it then. Reported Posts send us a flag needing resolution.

Many times other members will send me a PM (Conversation). Many times I will work an issue behind the scenes via PM

If I see an anti gay post or an attack of any I kind I deal with it. If I don't read the thread and it doesn't get reported, I can't deal with what I don't know about.

Do we always moderate perfectly, No. We are Human and have full time jobs and family distracting us. We do the best we can.

Carry on

I picked my 80 up from ACC on Friday afternoon with new e-lockers, Nitro axles/birfs, 4.56 gears, Ironman foam cells, and a generally clean bill of health. I was feeling pretty good since the rig made the cross-country trip from Seattle to Atlanta with no trouble.

25 miles later, the head gasket let loose just shy of 254,000 miles. :bang:

Oh well. I knew it could happen any time. At least I have time to get it fixed before GSMTR!

Sorry to hear about the HG, back to ACC? Enjoyed riding with you up in Clayton in February.

Not sure it is worth pushing it, guys. Yes the vast majority LOVES @Aloha Jen pics, but to get to the point we are fighting amongst each other, not worth it. The better alternative is if we stop fighting with Romer if we just ask if you can have an "80's chat thread" that would be obvious chat here in the 80's section basically it would be everything in this thread not tech. People that didn't want to read it wouldn't have to click it, there would be no expectation of it being tech and you wouldn't have to venture into chat. ;)

So what do you think Romer?

Give him a blue pill he think differently at least until he gets tired

Yup. Back to Harness and the gang. I've done a head gasket on a Miata before (bring on the jokes, guys) but that was with no deadlines -- and it is easier to get towed on a race track than the places I plan to take the 80!!:steer:

What sunset!?!?

Now on to a tech topic...
I moved my fire extinguisher to the Hanna cargo rack, removed my unused 3rd row seatbelts & installed a Matrix inverter in the cubby hole. I used the OEM switch & outlet in a Carling switch mount. View attachment 1243293View attachment 1243294
Do you leave the cubby cover off for ventilation, or do you close it up when loaded and/or on the trail to keep dust out of the electronics?

Spent Friday- Sunday on a solo expo style of the Georgia Overland trail. Perfect weather and awesome views and trails.

I've been wanting to check that out. Which section did you do?

Started out on the SC starting point Friday around 3:30, left via Helen Sunday around noon. It was awesome....
This is a longer write up for our club:

I'm getting ready pull the trigger on a fridge. Was reading about ARB and Engel and was trying to figure out which one to get. Then I saw this on Amazon. Half the price. Is it junk? Anyone have any first hand experience? I plan to use it in my 80 every weekend to keep stuff cold for baseball tournaments. And of course when I go camping. I can think of other areas to redistribute the $500 difference if possible.

STOP!
Look up the huge thread on Edgestar. I have purchased 5 fridges in the last year. Blem 63 quarts go for $275 shipped.
Not the most efficient but well worth the price

I plan on keeping it closed to keep the dust out. It's mounted via long screws and locknuts so it has free air all around it.

Thanks! I'm not overly concerned about efficiency since I have solar and dual batteries. As long as it keeps cold, I'm good.

My understanding is that Whynter makes the Edgestar fridges...

Gear Review- EdgeStar Freezer/Refrigerator

But like @LandCruiserPhil says, a blem may be the way to go. Especially for the price. However, I'll still tell you to buy the ARB fridge - buy once, cry once.:flipoff2:

You will be fine we use one of ours without solar or dual batteries to run back and forth to Mexico. It can go for several hours without issue. Overnight gets questionable when it hot out, 100°

You need to be very fast on the buy button because several guys watch for them to come up. Warning- Im looking and waiting for another for my father-in-law:moon:

Phil,
DO you keep it plugged in overnight or keep it off and it holds its temp? I just purchased one and am not up to the dual battery set up in my build yet. I am afraid of draining the battery overnight if I keep it on.

Between business trips, El Nino rain one week, too hot to work outside the next week, jetlag and not to mention a nagging wife, I eventually completed my aftermarket stereo upgrade. New Pioneer TSSWX2502 10" 1200watt (max) sub in the back powered by a pioneer GMD8601 amp, 4 new pioneer TSD1602R 65watt (rms) speakers in each door driven by a pioneer GMA6604 4ch amp. Up front i bolted in a Joying android based head unit.
Still have a little tweaking to do but overall I'm reasonably impressed with my 6 weeks of part time labour...

Unplugged you will loose about 10° overnight when fridge is full. You can also plug it into 110V
