Phase I of the "replace everything rubber under the hood" is underway:
Decided to replace the ventilation hose and PCV first.
A few notes: 20 years is too long to let your hoses be. The PCV gasket was on there unbelievably hard. I can't believe I was so stupid to replace the camshaft cover gasket and sparkplug gaskets without changing that out while it was out. Idiot.
I finally got it out by breaking off the top lip, then driving it off the PCV into the camshaft cover in one piece. I then removed the PCV and pulled the gasket out with a long needle nose pliers, tearing it as I went. This avoided anything going down into the camshaft area.
It idles much better now.
