I love my SCS wheels. I still have my stock ones but been really happy with the SCS SR8's I have.

SCS makes some really nice wheels. F5s are my favorite. I got them for our 5th gen as soon as they were available in a 17"

A Variation on "Hey, watch this!"

One day after installation, at the last mudhole (hmm, that looks kinda big, and deep), on the last trail of the afternoon. This was my last thought before plowing in: "Hey, I've got a locker!"

I did make it through... barely. However, when I emerged from the water/mud/muck, El Guapo was making horrible metal-grinding-on-something sounds. Well, with less than 100 miles on it, I thought I'd trashed my new locker, and maybe my rear differential along with it.

It turns out the really loud awful noise was coming from the driver's front tire area. So, with the help of my friend and his son (and when I say "help", I mean they did most of the work), we jacked up the front end, removed the tire, and fished out the chunk of gravel stuck between the inner dust cover and the disc brake.

Then we turned to the milder scraping sounds coming from the driver's rear tire area. The son picked out everything he could see between the inside of the wheel and the brake, and then I dislodged the rest with a slow reverse and quick stop maneuver.

All of this took place on a kind of level spot, in the middle of the trail, at nightfall. To give you an idea of how deep the "puddle" was, I had pine straw and leaves caked on top of my control arms and at least halfway up my springs.

Ha. 1972. My grandfather bought it brand new. 350/4-bbl/factory A/C. I've got all of the original dealer paperwork and Protect-O-Plate. Refreshed the engine in 2012. Runs and drives like a top.

Very nice. Wish mine was a BB!

Welding and grinding, mostly grinding--I think it's safe to say I'm pretty terrible at welding! Hahaha. But it's part of the addiction.

Got it home and got the winch hooked up, don't look at that weld it is ugly; but, one of the master welders spent about 10 minutes fixing it. He kept the ugly part so it would remind me that I need to practice! Hahaha I think it gives it the right character!

Not me, personally, but our company launched a Gates Foundation "poo plant" in rural Liberia. Our '93 Series 80 is still a heap of dung, mechanically, but it's still hauling people out into the hinterland and back.

I need one of these for my four dogs...

Ordered a pintle hitch recovery point from Duiser offroad and awaiting powder coat and shipment to Hawaii. Anybody have hardware recommendations when mounting to a stock FJ80 rear bumper?

Not sure that's the best of ideas but grade 5 or better would be a good start. That that cross member is a PITA to get hardware thru, I have a pintle but its also going thru an IPOR rear before the cross member, used grade 8 and had to chop a bit out of it to get the washers to seat flat.

The bolts for the standard Class III hitch are Grade 10...

Nice bike! Came across one of those in a pic from a friend who rode RAGRAI. Keeping up with skinny tire bikes. That you?

Is your friend from Iowa? I have a friend from Iowa that lives in Denton. I used to live in McKinney. Thankful to be out of that godforsaken state! F%@$ Texas! Still not over my hatred of Texas @LFD2037...

Did some laser printing and recreated the rear badge on the back. Some of you are familiar with the meaning of "Outlaw" on a vehicle. Specifically, it means the vehicle is modified so it can be driven the way it was intended, the way the manufacturer intended.
