Not so much the 80 but my 22 Yo Waeco CF40AC Fridge!
It had the dreaded thermistor go south and started freezing everything and would also make the control panel lights flicker like crazy. This is the first issue the fridge has ever had since I bought it.
Anyone that has one of these may know that a simple thermistor change isnt the case with these as its put in place at the factory and then the cavity between the outer shell and fridge cavity is pumped full with insulation foam. There is alot of info on the CF50 & 60 models where the thermistor is located dead centre on the bottom and the 'easy' way is to cut a hole in the bottom casing and remove the foam & replace however on CF40AC not much info however beleive its on the LHSide about half way up looking at it from the control panel.
I played around with a thermistor by sitting it in the fridge basket to make sure this was in fact the issue which it was so then decided to fix it myself. WIth a bit of testing I found that an ideal location for it would be about an inch above the point in the front left corner where the internal plastic base meets the metal panel.
To get the thermistor there I removed the cover that goes around the compressor and then where the cooling fan located is heated up a stanley knife blade and cut away a section of the grey plastic exposing the foam. Amount cut away was 2cm x 6cm. I then heated up a steel ruler and used it to melt / cut the foam so it came away as a 2x6cm piece. This then exposed the back side of the internal fridge chamber. I cleaned the surface where I planned to rest the thermistor against it and tested it for 24 hrs just by jamming the piece of foam I cut out against it and ran the fridge. I smeared heaps of heatsink paste on the area and also on the Thermistor.
It worked perfectly and with 2 LED's brought the temp down to 3deg and then cycled on & off as expected.
Its now all back together in the back of my 80 where its been since 2002
This now makes replacing the thermistor should it go bad again a very quick & easy job and no unsightly wires leading into the cabinet
Hope it helps other members who may have one of these fridges
I will get some pics loaded up soon
