I bought parts for my rear tire carrier. Some worked great and some didn’t. The Ruffstuff latches were terrible. Took my 60 home from Adventure Fab in Vancouver, Washington last weekend. Ordered new latches that are a locking style and shorter than the Ruffstuff ones. Returned the latches to Ruffstuff even though they had been tack welded. Their video shows them being installed incorrectly. Due to this they took them back but for instore credit. I decided to get their long clevis mounts. Also picked up some wheel studs to mount my rear tire on as the ones Nick had didn’t really work too well.

Drilled 9/16” holes in @TRAIL TAILOR rear tire carrier mount. Inserted the wheel studs which fit snuggly. Test fit and welded the studs in.

Used our forklift at work to lift the beast to get it onto the carrier.

Nice to have a forklift the 37s on a DOT Hutchinson beadlock is freaking heavy.

Tack welded the latches and tested. These are an amazing locking latch. Came highly recommend by Nick at Adventure Fab. Finished installing both latches but didn’t have time to install the clevis mounts.

@Hojack I see what looks to be a swing arm positioner for the pop pins.. but a question?

Does each arm have a positive top while opening and closing the arms? Keeping the arm from closing from hitting the gate and when opening from hitting the quarter panel?

If not....... get some installed quick.

Yeah those pop-pins have a pin that keeps it from hitting... I bought them from you:rofl:

I know that, I mean a STOP that keeps the arm from going past the oh s*** point. Wedge, block or pin to stop the arm in case the plunger pin spring gets packed with crap and doesn't work as fast or at all. I use L brackets with a rubber bumper to stop the arms from hitting the tailgate when coming together and then I weld a solid pin at the safe spot behind the spindle so the pop pins hits it.

The pop-pins clear the body with the swing outs fully open but I have yet to open them far enough to see when impact with either swing out will occur. Just so stoked to have this part done. I’d say a oh $h!t STOP is in order... thanks J

Next up Hardshell Rooftop Tent and it’s expedition time.

Pulled my buggered h55 out and installed a new to me one and swapped my transfer onto it and got the old girl back on the road.
What’s wrong with the “buggered” one?

Replaced the motor on my compressor winch, after 10 yrs it finally gave it up. It runs all the time when either winching or using the air compressor. It was actually easy to troubleshoot thanks to tech support from Warn. Gave me a chance to clean up and repaint Dave’s modified bumper :)

Took direct hits to windshield and driving lights on the Dempster Hwy, so replaced the lights and will do the windshield next time home.

Love my Toyo MT’s, but the Dempster really beat them up. I had a discussion with a tire guy in Inuvik, he does not recommend siping tires for the roads up there as they are blast rock and several thousand kilometres of that and it chunks the blocks badly, as I learned! So lesson learned.

Lastly, modified my tester with clips instead of those stupid sharp points and built a set of 10’ jumper testers with clips so next time I’m alone in the bush I can sit in the cab and still reach to test stuff while moving switches. My buddy recommended this idea so it will be part of my road kit from now on.

Last, did everyone know that when you pull a dirty filter from a 2H, 12HT and need a place to hold it you can just stick it down in the used air filter until it goes to the dump recycling bin? Pretty cool I figure!! 😎

Decided to replace the clutch Master cylinder, relief cylinder and hose before SAS3. I was having trouble keeping "pedal freeplay" adjusted, and a couple of times in the last month the first time I stepped on the clutch it was spongy. The firewall had a dark stain under the master cylinder, but no real visible fluid loss. All seems good now.

An interesting note is that in the second picture of the old and new MC's, the TEQ stamp on the new one has been ground off.

Scarlet (1983 FJ60) watched Angus (1995 fzj80) get a rear diff actuator replacement by @SipLife. It also forced me to do some yard work (trimmed back damn Crape Myrtles that were dropping all kinds of sap on the rigs we care about😊).

Father used his 60 to help me haul away a gazebo.
On the way back the drivers side tire blew. Makes sense given the age and the heat. He's been needing to get new ones for years so this was a blessing in disguise 🙃

Wrapped up my OME lift install and knuckle rebuild project with a tightening of belts, oil change, gear oil change in trans and transfer, and grease in shackles and pins on new OME. New OME lift with 33X10.50 tires, complete knuckle rebuild, new brake rotors and pads. Frantically trying to get done before SAS3. Finally got it wrapped up this weekend. OME lift turned out great and is nice and level. Can't stand the OME rake most rigs see after a lift install. Kurt @cruiseroutfit hooked me up with the perfect custom kit to ensure she was level. The thing drives like a new truck now. Been working on this rig since Summer 2017 trying to get her ready for this one trip replacing all manner of little lights, CB install, cooling system re-work, TRE's, full battery cable set and electrical system improvements, fog lamps, hitch, etc. A ton work of work has gone into her in that time. She's now as ready as I am going to make her. I can't believe I got this all done. Thanks to all the mudders who lent a hand helping me with this project. So happy to have this behind me. All that's left is to enjoy her. On to Colorado.
