Wow, for a minute there I thought someone had stolen my white '76 FJ40 with Warn winch!

I see on their website they have one of the uses as stringing it up for working under the hood. Do you think it would throw enough light to make it truly useful for that in the garage? Older I get the more light I need and a lot of shop options are expensive

I think they would, the 10ft length has magnets that slide around. They should have more in order to make it attatch easier. I found myself wanting to see if I could order more to slide on to make it easier to slap on anywhere metal.

Photo above gives you an idea of the amount of light they throw compared to another LED install on the back of the other 60.

I had the same thought at SAS when I saw yours.

That is the '79 FJ40 I bought new and sold last year.

It has a good home and I have visitation rights.

Saw this one on Kijiji FOREVER!! Glad it went to someone who will do some tasteful work to it! First thing get that Modern emblem off the grille!! lol But glad you found a Diesel! 2H? or 3B?
Hahaha absolutely! That emblem has no place on MY Cruiser. Owning this car is a tragedy because of what COULD have been. The interior is very decent though, and he Camry seats actually have so many lovely features like lumbar support, which my previous car (Subaru) lacked.

Send me your good wishes fellas, I'm excited to breathe some new life into this mishandled vehicle.

It wouldn't fit in the back, so...

Been dealing with some overheating issues with the new AC system that was just added to my 60. Keeps cool on the freeway, but starts running hot when idling or in stop and go traffic with the AC on. When AC is turned off, temps slowly start dropping.

So I swapped in a new-used fan clutch (thanks @kbfj621989), and now temps stay consistent at just below the halfway mark with the AC blasting!

Climbing steep grades or stop and go traffic, or long idling, the new fan clutch seems to keep the engine temps from climbing! Even seemed to help with more consistent lower AC temps, blows a consistent 41 degrees, which I read is pretty good for a r134 conversion.

So it's back to fun time with the 60! Loaded it up for day at the beach.

Even makes for a great mobile office with a fantastic view! With the blasting ice cold AC and stable engine temps, I can work
with the 60 idling for as long as needed. Of course taking plenty breaks for a swim in the ocean, making for a very enjoyable work day.

Nice job as always Jen. Is the used clutch you got from another hj60 or hj61? I just bought a new aisin one from cruiserparts but I'm thinking it probably crosses over to something more common that's available stateside. I know the fans can be swapped between 3b,12ht,2h, and even hz engines.

No, it's from a 3FE out of an FJ62. I read on a thread in the diesel section that they were compatible. Since it was nearly free, figured I would give it a try. The old one that came out was identicle in size and had the same turquoise colored base. Seems to be working great so far, huge cooling improvement over the old one.

Forget exactly where I read this but the FJ80 (3FE) fan clutch is recommended for improved cooling. This is the Aisin part number FCT-049. Available on Amazon. Based on Jen's observation the F series fan clutch will cross over to some diesel applications.

Well this just happened today....just when I was hoping for a little more fun time between repairs.

According to my Mud homework, will try the following to try and fix the temp and fuel gauge spike: Check and clean fuel sender contacts and ground connection under rear cargo carpet area.
If that doesn't work, remove dash gauge cluster and clean contacts on the gauges. Any other tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

mine does this as well - only on longer trip - oddly never in stop N go around town. i've learned to just accept it as old truck quirk.

i was feeling motivated one morning to upgrade the whole instrument & dash lights to LED's but i was having a hard time getting the cluster out and was feeling pretty sure i was gonna break s***...so i put it back together for another day.

if you figure out how to get the cluster out without breaking plastic tabs - i'd love to know.

as for the gauge spikes...i'm learning to accept it.

Great fuel mileage. A unicorn. ;)

Passenger side pillar of fj62 has threaded bosses for drivers pillar grab handle... both holes...

I am told this is " step 1 " for a good paint job... I think step 2 needs a couple drops of black, but I am the colorblind electrician, so what do I know? The thousand secrets revealed prior to "first color" have loosened the lips of the remaining couple of dozen secrets... thankfully, Alex is game for the long haul. He's going to cut and buff next week then we'll locate and address the rest of the issues. Waiting on some TT chrome strip for the rear hatch...
