Pics as requested.....

I bought my Cruiser in Calgary for the right price. It has spray can black rocker-guard type paint all over it but the job was pretty poorly done and it's coming off first thing. I should have enough money left over to at least get somewhat proper paint on it. The PO was a bit trigger happy and sprayed a lot of the chrome pieces with black paint. Luckily its come off pretty easy so far. Apparently cold-weather diesel anti-gel works really well as a paint thinner... paint needs my tender love and care, but the frame and power/drivetrain are doing great!

The first couple pics show it as I received it and the last couple show it after I stuck the mudders in the back and put on the more road-oriented tires for the drive. My plans are to keep this as a 4WD "bush-truck" and you can see that it has some bush-truck accoutrements/cut fenders, etc. but I'm excited to finally have a diesel cruiser.

I'm glad someone finally posted one that might be uglier than mine!

hahaha my rig IS pretty ugly, but I think yours looks great! Definitely looks like an outdoor rig and not mom's station wagon.
Well I could live with a little less rolled on bedliner and a little more Mom's wagon but I appreciate the kind words. Still if these things are about function you will be ahead of the game with your diesel engine, congratulations hope you are enjoying it:beer:

Powder coated and Rigid lights installed, now its time for the Come up to be installed (still have to do the wiring but waiting to do the second battery)! Also put on the 4runner wiper upgrade.

A bit of maintenance this weekend....
1 - New Bosch (BBE480) wipers - cheap, good quality and new!
2 - Fitted a re-conditioned clutch booster
3 - changed the gearbox oil, and added Nulon G70 additive to hopefully stop it snicking gears

Question on the booster...how necessary are these with the diesels? I have one but have not put it on the truck since my clutch is as easy to push as when I had a 2F. Could this be cause I'm using a 2F clutch vs. a 12HT clutch? Maybe that one is a lot more heavy duty.

there is no need for a clutch booster. My HJ61 never had one and even my wife with 165 cm and 55 kg never had a problem with the clutch.
Better do a brake booster upgrade because this is realy helpful.

Needed love so I gave her a bath and quickly noticed some surface rust showing up all over, so I decided that 20$ worth of paint from Walmart would be enough for now. Turned out like a 20$ 1 hour long job would but works for now, the paints gonna get scuffed sooner or later

I had an issue when towing in hot weather a few months back which caused the diaphragm in the clutch booster to swell, causing the clutch to slip - hence the re-cond one going in...
You must both be a lot stronger than me as I drove it for a couple of days without the booster and it was a struggle! I would have ended up with one leg bigger than the other!
The reconditioned (exchange) one wasn't cheap - about $400aus - but a lot cheaper than the $2000 one mechanic wanted to charge to put a new clutch in it for me thinking that was the problem!!

I did some more work on the '86 FJ60, which will lead to another major project milestone later this week (hopefully).

Hint: After finishing this small job this afternoon I now have an M15x1.5 tap available to loan out.

Your reminding me I need to get @gregnash's to the PO.

Started the easy modification to my '89 FJ62 split transfer case to convert it to manual front drive engagement.

Transfer-Case-Installation-4.jpg

I carefully drilled through the front half of the split case starting with a 17/64" bit. It's slightly smaller in diameter than the existing blind hole. I then enlarged the hole using a 31/64" bit. The last bit was 1/2", but it didn't want to go very deep, so I tried to tap the hole as is. The tap just kept removing material and never really got a bite in the aluminum. I filed the hole to open it up a bit until the 1/2" bit drilled all the way through, then was able to cut the threads. The recommended bit size for the M15x1.5 tap is 17/32", which is a little larger than 1/2". I'd recommend using a 17/32" bit, it would make the job of tapping the hole a lot more failsafe - you wouldn't really want to ruin a case half.

jesus that's beautiful!

Is that Ophir Pass? I did seven 4WD passes at the Solid Axle Summit, but didn't get a chance to take Ophir Pass from Telluride, we took Imogene Pass on our return to Ouray.

That's actually headed up toward California pass from animas forks. I did ophir right after that here.

Our group did Engineer Pass, California Pass, Hurricane Pass, and Corkcrew Pass from Ouray and back. 90% of the time after we left Animas Forks and before we got to Corkcrew Pass was in dense fog and clouds, so we didn't see too much in the way of scenery. @POTATO LAUNCHER kept telling us how great the views would have been had it been clear :-). But we'll be back.
