ooooooh

Camped at Great Sand Dunes thursday thru saturday. Did not take the FJ60 because we had the RV trailer.

Told the copilot if we put a Cummins 6BT in the 60, we could tow the RV with it and get rid of the Suburban.......that did not work.

I had not been to GSD for several years. This is early in the season and the place was crowded. Left the park to go to Zapata Falls at 10:30 AM saturday - the inbound line at the park gate was 0.5 miles long.

Amazing, I've never seen the place crowded. Usually stop there a couple of times a year on my to or from Salida, must be timing.

Everything is getting crowded nowadays. Too many people moving in (or procreating?)

I was last there maybe 6 yrs ago. Came over Medano Pass from the east. I do not recall it being so crowded then but I just drove thru and went to Salida.

A Ranger told me that on weekends when Medano Creek is at its highest level, mid-May to mid- June, the wait time at the gate is typically an hour. Day trippers playing in the water.

During the week it is not as crowded. We arrived on a Thursday at 09:30 AM. The reservation only campground was booked. The first come camp was about 50% full.

Saturday AM both campgrounds were 100% and overflow was camping in a couple of the parking lots.

That plus the feds closing off a lot of areas that used to be vehicle accessible. More people enjoying the outdoors but fewer places to go.

The crowded places have a theme park vib to them.....I don't like that.

That plus car alarms going off at all hours and mine field of dog crap.

Fair amount of people crap too, if you're not careful. :o

Do it, you won't regret it. Couldn't be happier with mine and you got to ride in it before I did. I thought a stock 60 got a lot of attention until driving one with a 12V Cummins in it. The hood gets raised often.

I knew it was a mistake taking a ride in your 60. You and Micah have corrupted my mind.

Drove around in the woods to sample ponds for critters. Had to deal with a few mild slop holes and crossed one small bridge constructed of old telephone poles. A good day out of the office.

Guaranteed your collection will grow :-). My collection never seems to shrink even though I'm slowly installing everything on/into my '86 FJ60 project vehicle. Right now I've got a new spare Pioneer CD/cassette player on the kitchen counter, still in the box, fresh from Malaysia (free shipping and it took only 4 days to get here).

At least for now everything you've got fits in the Land Cruiser.
