Not my FJ60, but stopped by the "Lemon Lot" (AKA Methodist Motors because the County parking lot is in front of the church) to look at an '85 FJ60 that showed up for sale this morning. Late '85 model with the 4-speed with extension housing, 205,000 miles, and an extremely nice grey interior. Only trouble is the typical rust that Land Cruisers here in the mountains of northern New Mexico have due to salting the roads in winter - rockers, quarter panels, front fenders, etc. are in pretty bad shape, especially around the rear wheel wells. The seller is asking low NADA $5,250, which is probably way high because of the rust. It's easy to pass when I already have more Land Cruisers than I need.

No, and I even had my camera with me. I can run by tomorrow and snap a few photos if you'd like.

Replaced the rear drive shaft U-joints. Tomorrow is a new MC and full system brake bleed!

That's it, a lot of rust down low.
Did you get a look at the frame/undercarriage? I asked the owner for pics and they were not very clear. Owner seems like nice guy, probably a decent buy for someone with metal work skills if the frame is OK

Frame didn't look to bad from what I remember, I can take a run back over there - it's only about 3 miles from the house. If I didn't already have an FJ60 in the same shape w.r.t. rust I'd consider it. I have an '84 parts FJ60 with only surface rust that would make a nice replacement body, plus an '89 FJ62 with a lot of good body parts. The '84 FJ60 is out at my place NW of Las Vegas.

Picked mine up from Jim Dickey's repair shop just south of Los Angeles. Quite an operation he's got down there. Cool projects and such a wealth of knowledge. I must say tho that upon inspection there were some loose ends that hadn't been tied up, but all in all I'm really happy with the work. I pointed out that there were a few things he said he was going to do but hadn't, and he spent the following 1.5 hours with me making sure everything was satisfactory. Not for everyone I guess, but I appreciate the low key atmosphere and he really seems to know the 2F well.

He did a full tune up, including a new master brake cylinder, valve job and gasket, new AC compressor and drier, compression test, and timing. Runs really well now. Best it has since I've owned it - should have made a trip down there years ago as part of my baseline effort. I forgot how frigid the AC in these trucks are...

Finished up the install on my rebuilt TC!

The transfer case was whining bad after only 25k on my rebuild. I decided I simply didn't have time or desire to rebuild it myself again and also I wanted to address the difficulty I was having shifting into 4lo. So, I shipped it off to Georg at Valley Hybrids!

Georg rebuilt it with the twin stick components. Back when I installed the 4l60e I extended the TC shirft lever to come up in the stock location. This extra length made it difficult to shift into 4 low.

Here's my old modified shift lever:

A photo I borrowed of the twin shift linkage on an H55. I still had to extend the levers with some straight tube to come up in the stock location but you can see the mechanical advantage of this setup:

And here they are in my truck! (Damn, that carpet looks nasty). Thanks @orangefj45 for the technical support while I fumbled my way through the install. So far the setup works awesome...it is so easy to shift in and out of 2-4wd and from hi into low.

Cheers!

I saw them today too going towards Mt. Hood. I was coming back from lolo pass. Thats a sweet rig

See that's the joy of living in Oregon vs. California. In California it would definitely be illegal to drive around with your baby attached to a windshield wiper

Wish I had the time, space and know how for a body swap but that's too much project for me. Especially as I have those friends that disappear 80% of the time when there is heavy lifting to be done!
