Theres, a write up in the 40 section. Basically get a short piece of PVC pipe (there one exactly the same size as the seal) and a cap and when you tap it in it goes in straight and even. Done it a couple of times myself and it works good.

Thanks for the tip, I'll def. give it a try.

Hey Lagua. Dood-drop your pan and rear main cap. Seal will slip out and new one right in. There is no way to mess it up if you do it like that. I know the pan is a PITA- but it is easier to replace than having to drop the transmission and transfer case again....AND you get to have a peek at all the internals. IMHO way easier than beating a clean-out cap w/ a BFH- and I get a new oil pan seal. Don't forget to do the pilot and throw away bearing while you are in there.

Gettin There

Today I repaired the parking brake - works great now! Also replaced the gear in the rear window mechanism. I'll be albe to do that a lot faster next time if I do it before I forget how I did it today. ;) Nice to have a trouble free up and down window in the back. Only thing needs fixin now is to repalce the License plate light with my new one and install the heater core and a shut off valve. :steer:

Thanks for all the tips people. I may just end up dropping the pan. Today, I fixed my air nibbler and cut out the rest of the shape for the rear window. I wish I had an air nibbler this whole time. The thing cuts fast, but I can take my time and make nice straight cuts too.

moved rear spring hangers back one and one eighth of an inch. It's a good thing that steel doesn't HAVE to look like it was sewn together w/skill in order to bond....I wasn't wearing my leathers, that must be it. I didn't LOOK like a welder dude at the time:doh:.

I noticed that the odometer was only moving the tenth's so I took that apart and cleaned it as outlined in the "Techlinks" and we'll see if that fixes it. Some of the number rings seemed to be really sticky on the shaft so I think that will be the fix.

Next up, installing the stock FJ60 AM/FM stereo radio into the '55 instead of the stock AM/FM mono radio I have now. I want to keep the OEM look as much as possible.

today was a bad Sunday, found some cracks on the chassis, well tomorrow, I will to load the oxigen bottle and start welding:frown:

Did you use my odometer rebuild thread? I am not sure if it made it to techlinks...

Does the 60 series stereo fit in the 55 slot w/o cutting?

I don't know who's thread it was but it worked for taking it apart at least. We'll see later this week if it worked for fixing the odometer.

The '60 series radio fits, the question looks like will the faceplate work or not. The faceplate from the AM/FM mono radio doesn't fit the stereo radio as the knobs are slightly differently positioned.
