Purchased a new front output flange and swapped the dust shield with my rear flange that was scored from the seal. Now I have a new rear flange that was NLA from Papa Yota.

Been using the 75 to haul water lately. 2200lbs (~250 gallons) of water only sags the rear 2 inches. We don't need to drive it far but it does pretty good going up steep roads in the mountains.

This happened last night...
Removing a leaf, cleaning up and painting with Slip Plate graphite paint, replacing bushings (and maybe pins) - fun stuff.

Adjusted the steering center then

Nothing too exciting this weekend, transfer case is still torn down waiting on some parts to arrive. Decided to go ahead and replace the motor mounts, easy access through the wheels wells. Then I removed the valve cover and checked the valve clearances. Had a couple that were out of spec, which didn’t surprise me. Ordered new shims. More waiting…

Made the 15 hour trek from VA to ME to spend time in Acadia National Park. Not having cruise control was a pain but otherwise it was a great drive. Managed to maintain 75mph and get roughly 20.5mpg with 4 adults, a dog and a week worth of stuff for everyone in the trunk.

Had time to do the Beehive hike/climb.

Left the dog in the car to grab coffee. I call this one "The look of betrayal"

I pushed the car on the way there, maintaining 80-85mph and the mpg was significantly worse. I think we burned an extra 3/4 of a tank on the way there. After we got there we had an issue with fuel leaking overnight from the filter and I had to give it gas while cranking to get it to start. I panicked and ordered a new filter, filter housing, fuel lines and a one way valve expecting that I would have to replace everything after limping it all the way back to VA. We've had no issues since day 2 of the trip and the slower trip home was uneventful. I'll wait a few weeks to see if the issue comes back, I'm chalking it up to it not liking driving that fast for several hours at a time.

I ordered the "cold weather" version of the filter housing with a built-in heating element. We have the wiring for it and it'd be nice in the winter even though we haven't had trouble starting it so far.

Beautiful truck and trip pics :)

Everytime I'm on the interstate I drive 80-85 mph. I keep my fuel and cooling systems in excellent shape so I can drive the truck like I stole it lol. In my experience the 1KZ-TE is a hell of a powerplant that delivers ample power reliably, I only wish I have a fifth speed on my transmission and maybe a cruise control.

Cheers.

Appreciate it! Cooling is rock solid on our truck, I've never seen the temp gauge go above its normal operating temp. This trips fuel issue is the only time it's given me pause, but then it fixed itself. I'm going to go through the swap anyways just for the sake of having new parts in there. Carplay in the stereo and the aftermarket arm rests made the trip infinitely more bearable.

As far as cruise control I've heard there are solutions for other 1KZ-TE powered vehicles. It looks like a decent amount of work though. Even without cruise control it beats being stuck at 60-65mph in our 60 series.

Ok.... so I have to ask... I have a 1HZ (non turbo) Troopy with a 5 speed manual and 70mph really seems to be the top end (as determined by the way it "feels") I'm going to be swapping to ATs instead of MT tires and dropping in an all new springs and shocks etc ... maybe it's the "ride" as it is now that's making it feel like it does?

Am I off base?

For our 1KZ-TE and auto trans it's a little different. 80-85 is pretty easy for it, even with 31" tires. With it fully loaded I was around 3k rpm at that speed. Our truck actually got quieter and rattled less above 80 than it does at 60.

For my 60 series with the 2f I don't exceed 2700 rpm on the highway because that's what's "safe". At that rpm I'm around 65mph. I'm sure there's a thread somewhere showing what you can do safely for long journeys. I've always wondered what the non-turbo diesel troopys can do on the highway, there's one in our future for sure.

You can get the "ride" dialed in so it "feels" good, with suspension, tire selection, and brake work, but asking an old 1Hz to push a loaded troopy at 80-85 on the interstate is pretty unrealistic.
