80 mile shake down run yesterday afternoon, temps around 80.
Longest trip so far since front/rear axle rebuilds, valve adjustments, new exhaust etc etc etc.....
No issues...temps good, oil pressure good.
Have to say that the MASSIVE wind wings on the doors do a fantastic job of running on the highway with all windows down a pleasant experience.......I might leave them on.
Time to order up a timing belt kit and water pump....the one on the 77 looks like its aftermarket and for piece of mind I'd prefer a new OEM....one and done.
Power steering will get a flush and re-fill this weekend.

looks great . is this the ARB commercial Bullbar ?A signifigant step with the 12 H-T swap. Passed inspection for the fist time in more than four years. I'm very happy with the 12H-T, it is so easy to keep up with the traffic compared to 3B.. and fuel consumption seems to be a positive surprise, first highway test 10,35 litres per 100 km (22,7 mpg) .

Any idea rough mileage on that motor?
Are 1HZ rebuilds usually limited to typical consumables like pistons/rings/valves/camshaft or are larger items like crank required to frequently be replaced?
Unknown. s***box mine motor. So probably hammered in the past.
We are installing a new OEM short block for time sake and no human can beat the quality of a factory assembled short block made by a robot.
In your experience tearing down 1HZ's how frequently do you see issues with cracked pre combustion chambers/cups?

Guaranteed. Some better than others. This engine had an aftermarket turbo (low pressure/small power) for about 8 years.
So, if I were to do a 1HZ head/valve job just plan to replace the pre combustion cups eh?
Two different ways to go about this:
1. Buy a new cylinder head that comes with new precups already installed: 11101-17050 less than $1000 from any Toyota dealer in the US. 24 in stock currently.
2. Or the machine shop route.
I personally prefer option 1.
Makes sense, I was looking at prices of cups and iirc they are like $60 each....already $240 into the cost of new head without the headaches of removal/install
In all honesty, 1HZs crack heads, pretty often between the valves. I’ve replaced many for that reason as well.
These engines just get ****ing hammered. It’s what they were made to do--operate conservatively in as many environments as possible and still do an OK job of maintaining consistency.
There is a reason why it is the longest running engine manufactured by Toyota.

Existing water pump appears to be aftermarket replacement so its got to go
Timing belt was replaced according to sticker within last 30k km...better safe than sorry....only way to be sure is to nuke it from orbit......
No idea if tensioner, pulley, spring or timing cover camshaft seal have been done so added to order
tensioner/pulley for timing belt 13505-17011
tension spring 90507-27001
Spare woodruff key 90280-05004.....I could see it being dropped/fat fingered and lost....cheap insurance.....
Timing cover camshaft seal 90311-32020
Included a new thermostat and gasket while at it.....
Gonna swing by dealer and pick up another tube of packing.
Fingers crossed that I got all the p/n correct lol

Ooooh. Nice! Still waiting on my 1HZ short block. Been a journey as you know. At least I've had plenty of time to clean and get my other orders in.
