Is that Black with yellow wire in the middle pic melted? Looks like it grounded out on whatever it’s resting on?

Installed vinyl mats in the 73. Happy with this change, but still need to do a little trimming/fitment work on the middle and rear sections.

Met up with a fellow cruiserhead yesterday. My buddy and his son came with me to Canmore (past a forest fire right next to the highway) to meet up with @Rigster and his fam. Great time, great rigs, all we were missing was @janyyc . Next time buddy!

Rigster's rig made mine look like a mall crawler, so I'm loath to post pics. Bear in mind mines on 33s with 2 inch lift. And yet... Bigfoot still towers over mine.

Wouldn't ya know it, when I went to leave my truck decided to finally reveal why it was occasionally giving me a no- start situation. A few taps from the blunt end of my axe quickly remedied the situation. But I'm pretty sure it was petty jealousy on OLBETSY's part. That 76 sure was sweet..

Great meeting you guys! Took us 2.5 hours to get home. Highway was closed and the alternate route was crawling and bumper to bumper. Hope you guys had a great climb today!

Yes, there was short circuit. But fuse didn't burnt, instead burnt wire. Now i have to dismantle all dashboard.
Believe it or not there are people in this world that see a schematic and it makes perfect sense. They actually enjoy chasing down and fixing wiring problems. They are some of the greatest people to know when you have a problem like that. Hope you find someone like that, or wish you luck in doing it yourself.

Looks good. Where did you get the front mats from?
I need to do same procedure, but wasn't able to source the mats in good quality for a reasonable price yet.

Thank you for the kind words @JDM Journeys, I have to say it was an honor and pleasure to meet up with you and commiserate over Cruisers! I love ol' Betsy!! You have accomplished a great deal on her and I look forward to following the progress.

My older 2 boys and I did manage to make it back safely from our climb, though simply due to the high gusting winds, we were unable to get to the peak. We chose to play it safe. It is not the first time I had to turn back due to weather. But the boys and I still had some great quality time!

Geared up and ready to go!

We made up to just below the frost line in great time (2.5hrs) and made camp. The boys impressed me with their great pace... making me wonder if I would be able to keep up with THEM! LOL.
A view from camp before continuing our ascent, it was already getting quite windy and gusty...

We continued on and the weather just kept on getting more gusty to the point where climbing was beginning to become dangerous. We made a collective decision to head back down to camp

If you open the picture fully and zoom in, you will just be able to make out our tent far below

We came back down the next day and drove home. I have to say, driving this Land Cruiser is a real pleasure, absolutely love it. Thanks Phil for meeting up and making that one of the highlights of the trip! Sorry it took you guys so long to get back home!! :(

Removed about 20lbs of old wiring and dead “infotainment” stuff…..View attachment 2760016View attachment 2760016
LOL!! Let me guess, did you import your Cruiser from Japan? This brought back memories of one of the first things I did to mine... I had a CD changer, a remote receiver, a junction box, tons of wiring, radio/tape deck, a toll booth transponder and my pile looked pretty identical to yours there... lol. They sure do like their "accessories" on that island...

Found a leak. Not huge or hitting the ground and only when it’s running. Explains why I never saw it.

It appears to be coming through the bottom bolt of the tensioner and coming down. My guess is the tensioner vibrates enough that it broke a gasket/fipg seal.

I’m guessing I can pull it and thread seal it? Any other thoughts?

I had recently installed a HZJ76 series kaymar bar with dual swing outs on my HZJ77. Initially I left the swing out off on the left side and was using the right side swing out for the spare but it didn't take me long to want no swing outs at all. Love the bumper, but just don't like swing outs at all.

Removing the swing outs left these exposed posts so I managed to get some kaymar rubber pivot covers from patrolapart (a seller on ebay australia) and they are awesome. I used black electrical tape on the exposed threads for added protection. Highly recommend for anyone that makes the same choices as I did.

Not sure what you're swing outs look like. I'm assuming you just don't want to keep having to open them and shut them every time you want to get in the back of the vehicle. I use just one swing out which leaves the small door uncovered for ingress and egress. An option I considered was to use an air spring connected between the door and the swing out so they would open and shut as one together but the air spring would hold it off the bumper slightly so it would not rattle leaving the latches on the bumper to latch it down for off-roading if desired.

I went up on our local mountain to forage for mushrooms yesterday and found myself trying to evade an active flash flood on the only route out that I had... There were a couple points where water was halfway up the tires but I was mostly just worried about how fast it was moving and how much there was.

4LO and 2nd gear in conjunction with good ol knowledge of how to read moving water (grew up boating the Grand Canyon) made for a wild ride. I am so impressed by these vehicles and how truly capable they are. I don't think I would be typing this right now if I had been in a lesser 4x4- I'd probably have been stranded up on the mountain or worse!

First pic shows a downhill section that was 100% engulfed by runoff. Keep in mind that this is an open, public access forest service road that gets a lot of use by campers. Second pic shows where the runoff was going across a low point in the road- only about 1/2 mile from highway 180 here in Flagstaff- a lot of van people doing long term camping out there were stranded.

I had to stop for an hour or so and wait for the levels to drop before I felt comfortable crossing. I ended up wading across to check the water level and when I crossed it was only ankle-deep, but it had dropped out about a foot by then. I've never seen water running through this area in years of going up here. Full size logs were being dragged across this channel by the water, and there was a 10'-12' dropoff/pourover on the left side of the road, making the crossing very high consequence.

Nice!, looks like fun and a little freaky.

How is that new turbo working out?
