The batteries in my 1985 BJ73 quit. I own the vehicle since May. They came with it. Two different models (same ratings, though) and ages (3 and 4 years old as per the dates given on them). Battery terminals were also worn and hardly to thigthten.
The previous owner also simply took 12V for the radio from one battery. Unbalanced (dis)charging and overheating due to bad terminals wrecked them.
Two new Banner P7740 Power Bull PROfessional 77Ah / 700A batteries, new batterie-terminals and connecting cable installed. Not ready to start yet, as the main ground cable to the starter/ engine sits in the post office, still. Will get it installed tomorrow.
I also fitted a load balancer, a 24V-12V DC-DC concerter (240W) for the radio and USB terminal and maybe other stuff to come. All installed and wired up with fuses and stuff. Keep fingers crossed it'll all work and and the alternator and IC are OK.
And I got a 6-LED replacement for the original souffite-bulb in the interior light. Will see tomorrow wether that fits into the light casing. Let it shine 💥

If the balancer doesn't work out, you can get 24-12v DC transformers on amazon up to 40 amps for less than $50. I use a 40 amp to run my 12v air con retrofit, radio, sub amp, and other accy. For winch it runs off 24 just fine even though it's 12v(it's fast).

Worked on converting what began as a stereo amplifier enclosure into a lockable box.
This will mount where the rear heater used to be, also facing back.
t's stainless steel so it should clean up well with blasting.

Started tearing into some regular & not so regular maintenance this week. The list includes a new starter & PS pump, rebuilt PS box, most fluids to be changed, a few minor expedition upgrades, tidying some wiring... So far I am remembering things to add to the list faster than I am crossing them off :hmm:

Tried to get to a proven fishing spot in Northern NM but it was snowed in. Made it up the mountain, almost to the top and hit 14" of snow, of which was over some of the slickest mud. Tucked our tails and headed south to warmer weather... The fish don't bite in this part of the Chama (the good fishing is 20 miles north of here but we had some 2WD friends meeting us and they wouldn't make it to our other place), so I spent the afternoons shooting photos of migratory birds like the Wilson's Warbler.

My Ute was not built with a/c which is kinda important in Southern Georgia. The plan initially was to simply add the necessary components to have working air. The existing components looked very tired.

It was decided that it would be more prudent to just cut to the chase and install all new components.

New faceplate for the heater controls (one with “blue a/c). Sorry for the shadow in the photo.

I did the very complicated job of installing the cup holder from Odd Iron. Those 2 screws to secure the cup holder to the floor took at least 3 or 4 seconds each.

The careful placement to avoid hitting your knuckles when using the parking brake was stressful.

As it turns out, adding an a/c condenser, Intercooler heat exchanger and an aux oil cooler between the radiator and grill requires a good bit of imagination. 😊

So I was trying to fit a trailer hitch in the BJ74, on and off for awhile now. It would never fit. I kept thinking I could grind down a drawbar/hitch to fit. I ended up not doing that because of a front drive flange output shaft leak on the t-case and took the Tundra instead. Driving me nuts as I wanted to tow a small trailer and try it out.

Today...

US receiver hitch is 2" 50.8mm
Australia receiver hitch is 50mm,

Well that might explain why none of my hitches will fit that receiver...OR am I completely wrong with about that?

Looks like this might be the answer to my issues? Says
Zerone Trailer Hitch Ball Mount,2Inch/50mm Trailer Ball Mount Tongue Hitch Receiver for Towing Towbar Caravan Truck 6000lbs

Amazon product ASIN B07CLZ6ZJF
But they keep referencing 2" throughout. I suppose a quick email to them might clear it up.

My Kaymar receiver will accept 2 inch drawbars.

Yeah I'm not sure on my hitch. It's definitely an old Australian hitch that bolts to the frame, then my bumper over that, and I know none of my drawbars will go in. It looks just like every other Reese type hitch. They are all too big, and they all fit fine or slightly loose on my "US" cars.

Is there build-up inside the receiver tube or could it be tweaked a bit? I landed hard on mine once and bent the lip.

That dent is probably your problem.

Today, because I am still waiting on my head gasket , I thought I’de just change out the UJoints on my rear drive line.
My God That Was Hard. Thought I was going break my press trying to get those damn things to pop loose. Must have been the original Ujoints. Once the yokes were cleaned up the new ones pushed right in.
