Got a bit further on the patio, gave in on the excavation work though. Helps to have an excavation contractor for a neighbor. Should be pretty close to finished with the upper patio tomorrow.

Finally lost a fender flare at the CMCC last weekend. As much as I love the look of the flares, mine were all trashed, so it was time for a deflare.

It took less than 30 minutes. I unbolted any of the remaining 10 mil bolts, grabbed the flares and just twisted/yanked them off o_O. Every one of them came off quite easily.

Grabbed a pair of vice grips, clamped onto the mounting studs that were still poking through the front fenders, and applied some tension as I unscrewed them, leaving the nuts to drop into the fender. There were a few stubborn ones that I had to grind off. I also had to drill out the rivets for the mounting brackets on the rear doors.

Now, I have to decide what I want to do next as far as the holes and paint scheme. Probably will reproduce the flare lines with matching color paint. Might just pop some painted plugs in the holes...who knows.

I'm actually bummed to be flareless, but I knew it was coming...I'll get over it :(

Yeah, I've seen these before, and kind of like them...but they would just end up getting destroyed like my originals

Just improved my rigs performance by adding this high speed, low drag, wind tunnel tested, Teflon coated.....

Thanks to Andy and Greg for getting this out to us. One of the easiest mods done to date.
Oh and I'm officially working on removing my rear sway bar but took a much needed time out to increase HP with this.

Installed a new stereo in the LX450 last night. My poor wife has been driving without one for a few months since the factory unit died!

I managed to snap the tabs off of the plastic slot thing above the stereo. Was planning to hot glue it back in place, but it fell out of the truck onto the garage floor and shattered! I have never seen plastic quite this brittle!

Isn't there a Toyota part number for a cup holder to go in this slot?

There is a cup holder that fits there, but I envision spilled coffee ruining your new radio...

I have a gamaviti insert for that slot. I have my digital voltmeter, switch to toggle between primary and back up battery voltage and a mic holder for my HAM.

Got a price from Beno and am not sure I want one that bad anyhow ;-P

Greg, have any spare ones laying around?

Andy

No, sorry, the '97 I have has a little pocket there too.

Someone is trying to buy the whole truck from me, but I'm trying to talk him out of it...for a few reasons. I want a lot of parts off of it, and I think he'd be better off buying one that does not need engine work.

If he heeds my advice, and goes a different route, you can have the pocket. I'll let you know this weekend how it goes.

Smelled brakes last two times I drove the 40. looks like passenger rear caliper is hanging up. Bought two new calipers and a brake pads today with any luck will have them all installed and brakes bled by middle of the week! Gary

So added some new gear....4+Plus/LCWizard roll cage/roof rack and tire/cooler carrier. Can't recommend Dave Gore (lcwizard) enough. Great guy to work with, very reasonable and great product.

This summer has been a bit of a total wash on FJ-40 work. Primarily because this happened:

Now that all THAT cheesiness is out of the way, I can get back in the garage!

I've got a professionally rebuilt and tuned Quadrajet on order from Sean Murphy Inductions on the way. My current carburetor is shot (again) due to what I believe is a clogged needle and seat. I currently have an old Buick Q-jet that I've rebuilt once already; but there are several broken (non-repairable) items, like the fast idle cam and warped air horn. I've decided to retire it and start with a carb that I KNOW is good.

Assuming the flooding issues are resolved with the new carburetor, the next step is the eternally delayed engine pull required to put it in the correct position in the bay, replace the worn out throw out bearing, get the Downey Bellhousing in, and seal up all the oil leaks from ye olde 283.

The only minor detail impeding this project now will be the lack for 240V lines/receptacles in the garage, which I will hopefully be remedying this fall.
