I have seen the kit sold here on the board by one of the members for $875 materials front and middle rows........anyone, what can I expect to pay to have this kit installed?

I had a local shop install a "roadwire" Leather kit in a VW Passat back about 4 years ago, and they charged $1200 including materials, labor, and they did the door panels as well (which he said they lost their shirt on).

Anyone with advice>? I simply don't have the time to do this myself...

Thx, Ben

I'm curious about this myself, not the kit install, but cost for recovering the seats in general. I have a 91 with cloth and I intend to keep them that way but they need new foams and some new fabric so I'm gonna be looking for a good shop in middle TN soon, I hope.

My guess is a $150-$200 for the install of a kit.. You can get new OEM seat foam from CruiserDan for $134.00 for the bottoms and the backs are around $82.00... Another option would be SOR's Tuff Duck canvas seat covers

Anyone here replace the stock seat foam and was there a noticeable improvement?

got my entire interior re-done minus the rear cargo. new headliner, carpet and leathers for an unspeakable amount of money. ; )

That's great for you but it really doesn't help anyone or answer the original question.

Now a useful contribution to this thread would be you divulging the cost and a location where it can be done. smh

I replaced the cusion foams up front...made a difference...as did repairing the actual frame wire that had collapsed as well due o a broken weld...

As for op....DIY and save the coin...its not hard, plenty of info on here to guide you in the right direction...

I have seen folks on Mud say 400.00-500.00. I just had the 1st and 2nd row seats, arm rests, center console leather replaced along with new OEM front carpet and it cost me just shy of a grand. However, I live in northern Virginia which way over priced on everything.

Wow, that's a DEAL! The material kit for the front two rows is $875 alone, yes?

Ahh, yeah sorry to be clear that is labor. Shane's leather kit and OEM carpet are another 1200.00 or so. :)

Gotcha, I was planning a quick road trip to your neck of the woods at that price;)

Alot of the writeups about shanes covers, have people replacing the seat bottom foam when they put the new covers on. I would definitely get new OEM seat bottom for at least the drivers seat (probably just do both front seat bottoms), if I were installing new leather. Its only ~$120-140ea, IIRC.

It all depends on location.

Here in Oregon City, I am blessed with two well established upholstery shops. I pay $400 to do both rows and a little more for the console and door arm rests.

The most of their work is high-end sofa's, chairs, motor homes, custom coaches and full on custom hot rods to exotics that take weeks to do. They don't do the repairs, convertible tops and vinyl roofs. But they can install both rows in 6 - 8 hours and that includes steaming the factory cushions to give them some life back. Replacing seat bottoms of needed with OE only ones. When it came to replacing the carpet in my 100 I sh!t when they told me what it would cost me. So I decided to do it myself, glad I did but I also learned why it was so expensive as it's a huge task.

I have called around to 15-20 shops in the past 7 years and I have found that the smallest ma and pa shops are not only the best, but the fairest in price. Big shops have big bills to pay and extend that to you.

I'm in the process of replacing my leather right now. Waiting for the materials to arrive from Shane @ Metric tLC. Before I decided to do this myself I called three shops here in Sac and was quoted $2800 to $3500 for rows 1&2 with console, headrests, and armrests. The quotes were for materials and installation. Also, they all said they would need my vehicle for a week or so. I'm sure they would do a great job but it just wouldn't work for me.

I have a receipt from the PO for a single front bottom for $345 materials and labor (Denver). I think if I were to spend 2K I'd have Recaro's done to match.
I will probably have the passenger side bottom done at some point since it just started to rip

I paid $1350 for 100% leather front & back seats, 1st & 2nd rows with all 4 door's armrest & center console as well & all headrests, labor INCLUDED. (I think they charged $250 -$300 for the labor alone if you bring your own seat covers)
It's a family own small shop in suburban city east of LA.
I would not be more happy as the leather works are excellent.:)

This is how it works. Go to the shop & pick/match the leather color, type, one tone or 2 tones, 100% leather or leather front/faux leather back (50/50%), settle down the prices & put in deposit. She will call when the leather kit arrives. (the leather factory is in Long Beach, I think it took about a week to make the kit after she ordered it). Leave your car there for 2 days max.for installation. Her uncle will do the installation (30 years experience). A very nice family shop!

Good Luck!
