I haven’t done a metal working job without this since I bought it.
Usually I hit spotwelds with cutters. I’ve seen them done with the belt sanders. The belt sanders are supposed to be a lot faster getting things apart, but don’t know how well that method works when putting the same pieces back together. It seems like you’d end up with a larger area to weld back together with thinner material on the periphery, as opposed to a cleaner circle to plug weld

Why would you ever need to cut spot welds then weld those same pieces back together?

What am I missing?
You did a fantastic job removing and reinstalling that panel but I addressed those same areas without removing it.
You are correct there will be times that drilling is a better option than grinding but as a rule I don't remove welded body panels unless the damage is beyond what can be repaired with it left intact ( large rust holes / smashed ).
Interior surface rust can all be addressed through small existing or drilled holes, the tools and supplies used to be very specialized and expensive for this but with sites like Amazon selling all of China's tool catalog this stuff is cheap now.
If I don't forget I'll grab some pictures of the tools I used when I'm out in the shop.

Some of the stuff I've used recently.
I'll spray something on the rust first..
Then I'll spray a coating like POR-15 or any of the rust converting/directly on rust type coatings or a two part epoxy marine type primer with a pressure pot and an extension tip on my spray gun.
I'll use one of those endoscope cell phone cameras if mirrors and flashlights don't work to see what I missed.
If everything looks good with the paint I like to use a lanolin base coating as a top coat and literally hose it everywhere as thick as I can. Up in every pillar, down in every seam, up in the roof sections that are prone to rust and let it drip out the bottom if needed..
I have a gun just for this but I also buy it in a spray cans and they come with an extension nozzle that will help you get into some areas.
The gun nozzle will spray straight or in a 360 pattern.
I found a similar version to this on the Amazon for $11..
My way is no more righter or wronger than what @RUSH55 did under his cowl area. As long as we are having fun then we are doing it right!

Lap or butt weld ?

This is my go-to guy. His cut n butt method is faster than the way the guy above explains.
Questions about doing this.
1. would you use a cavity wax or fluid film method on an ABCD pillar?
2. Would you want some sort of paint on the inside of a pillar first?
2.A What is the method for doing that if so?
Hypothetically, if you cut the roof off of a vehicle below the drip rail and then had access to the pillars from the top. What would you do to prep them before putting a roof back on?
Why does he only show the back of a butt weld, but doesn't show the back of the lap weld. Isn't there going to be areas for moisture and salt to be captured?
I think in the second video he shows the lap weld back where the joint is facing upward ( or downward?)so water would be hard to get to? I might be wrong about this as I was my third beer.
