Fixed.

Problem:

I bought an analog voltmeter from a nearby Napa for $25 and it showed 2V at the bulb socket. Chased it upstream until I had 12V. Completely worth the $25.

That’s daylight through the real wheel well.

Solution:
Depin the connector, clean up with 400 grit sandpaper, reassemble. Blinkers work great now. This will be in need of a more permanent long term solution eventually … but that is not today, or this year. And probably not next year either!
Your fender and quarter panel are divorcing?

I think Matilda is trying to tell you she would prefer to be a 2F-E. ;)
I like the concept. I don’t like being too dumb to understand EFI!

I have a set of 91-92 3F manifolds and the corresponding carb coming my way, so I may go that route. This rebuilt motor is 1985+ so the head has the provisions for the extra bolts that the 3F manifolds use. Should be a straight bolt up.

SAS prep pretty much done today

Adjusted valves
Re-torqued the head bolts
Re-torqued manifold bolts
Check all suspension bolts
Checked transfer case & diff fluids
Checked brakes

Need to rotate the tires, and maybe get new air & fuel filters. Other than that it’s throwing things in the truck Thursday night. Outbound Friday!

Question:

Tick-tick-tick from the back right only while moving. Sounds almost exactly like a rock in the tire, but it isn’t. Been happening for a few months and I’ve thoroughly checked for rocks. It also makes the noise on dirt. It’s speed-dependent.

Any guesses from the peanut gallery? I’ll dig in tomorrow evening when I have time.

When do you hear it? Constantly? Speeding up or slowing down? While Braking? How do you know it’s the rear?

I had the front brake pad wire separator spring break on mine and it made that exact sound (stone in the tire), except it was the pads clicking in the caliper. Passenger side, could only hear it if the window was down and I was driving past a car or a brick wall.

I hear it out the passenger window when it's rolled down, too. I've determined rear from my wife leaning her head out that window periodically over the past few months. It happens on both accel and decel, and while the tempo of the noise corresponds to speed, it comes and goes. It might tick for 4 seconds and then not for 2 seconds, then tick again for 8 seconds, and then not for 1 second. But for the most part it's rapidly coming and going at all times.

A brake inspection is on my list before I leave!

I know you have probably already checked this, but I've had wheel weights hitting brake caliper once and most recently hitting the spring holding the pads in! Had to get them rebalanced with weights on the edge.

I did not check wheel weights or brakes or any of that last night …

Instead I welded together a jerry can carrier for the roof rack. I’ll be visiting @nakman tonight to get some special Gamiviti mounting hardware to attach it. I got my Gamiviti rack with a future eye towards all of Tim’s modularity, but haven’t really gone down that road until now. Looking forward to some of the G Clamps and a set of the shovel mounts. Before the fall I might pick up some of the quick release awning mounts too. All of this will be better than having junk rattling around in the cargo area or tied to the roof rack with an insane number of bungee cords. Everything secured into its proper place. The tracks I installed in the cargo area floor will help with that too.

For what it’s worth I have a 2x jerry can carrier on the rear bumper that came from @lcwizard - love it, bombproof - but that will be filled with 2x water cans. En route to Ouray we’re taking a path that might require additional fuel so I needed more Jerry can capacity. Seems like I need 2x water and 2x fuel capacity for about two trips every year, so it was time I built something. No photos, I was working quick and got it finished and spray painted about 10:30PM, and about that time I needed my head to hit a pillow.

Here’s the jerry can basket I booger welded together and painted in 90 minutes the other night:

I used cutoff pieces of chain for hook loops on the side because I was working fast and that’s what I had.

Gamiviti G-Brackets to provide attachment points for the basket:

Loaded with [empty] cans:

The cans can be removed without disturbing the basket. Success.

@nakman has a really nice 40 by the way. Both of these trucks are from 1982, which is pretty cool.

Hey Jim, remind me I'm tossing a handful of square end caps into my glove compartment... we can dress up that Jerry can holder next week.

also thanks again for the help with the voltage regulator swap! always good to get the 82's together, they seem happy.

I was thinking about caps for the top of that basket but haven’t had time to run by the hardware store. Thanks my man, and see ya in a few days!
