So my Buddy's, in their Jeeps and one in a 1978 F150, went up in the Sierra's and took a couple trails, One was Red Lake the other was Coyote Lake, I'm not gonna give you a whole trail report cause this isn't the place. But Coyote lake is rated as "most difficult" 4x4trailtalk.com gives it an 8 out of 10. You can see how I've modified my 80 in my sig. I'll let the pics do the talking.

This Is before we started, snapped while airing down so you can get a good idea of how it was set up.

This is about half way through Coyote, The Red Lake trail didn't really cause any problems, a bunch of frame hits and that damn t-case crossmember.

Nice Flex in the rear, Lost my first front bumper cap not long after this was taken.

So I'll jump ahead to yesterday afternoon when I got home and snapped some pics in the driveway

So with this, my dumb ass backed into a tree leaving Red Lake and bust my tail light. Then some how I hit a rock above the light, no clue when it happened.

This will be covered up, It's a good thing I got my exhaust done last week.

More Rocker Panel Damage, Should I cut into them and mount my Marlin Sliders in their place?

Good thing I did this last week or I would have destroyed my exhaust, oh and I can pass smog now.

I think Dillion held up nicely. No major damage outside of the tail light and I've already ordered a new one. Just gotta bang out some dents. I think I'm gonna line the whole side of the truck (follow the body line). Sliders are a must and I would have faired better with a 2.5 lift and a set of 35's. Think I'll go with 5-6 with 37's. On the way back down We stopped at Red to drain some gas from my tank for the jeeps (ol boy forgot to fill up and had less than a gallon left). Saw some pretty nice Yota mini trucks waiting to go up the Gate Keeper, One guy didn't believe me when I said I made it all the way to Coyote. "You made it all the way to Coyote....IN THAT?" is what he said. I just smiled and said yep.

and two more cause I was limited to 20 pics

Great stuff! Did the Jeeps and the Ford F150 make it and if so what did they look like?

Looks like a GREAT day on the trail. Time to armor up!

 badges of honor ;)

the F150 bent both of his tierods about 200 yards into the Coyote Trail couldn't steer so he parked his truck at red lake and rode with me to Coyote, the next day when we picked up the truck and he broke his rear driver side axle shaft on the way out. He's spooled front and rear so I'm not surprised. That last rock before you get into Coyote Lake gave everybody fits, I got caught up on my rear lower control arm mount the jeeps were getting caught up on their pumpkins.

Here's the ford

Beautiful Clean Lake

Didn't really take a lot of pics on the trail as I was trying to drive. It was a great time. I think I'll get some armor and a lift before I try it again.

I dunno. Guess I don't really care about body damage. That's really all that got hurt. In fact if I had a lift and some sliders I think my only damage would have been the light and maybe some of the scratches. It's ok though because It's getting durabaked. This does prove that you don't need all that extra stuff, but it helps. You just gotta take it slow and have a good spotter in the hard spots. I had planned on making new bumpers anyway So I don't really care that I trashed this one. the rocker panels are probably coming off now but that will just add clearance. The dents I can either bang out myself or my neighbor can do it. He's got 20+ years in paint and body work. I think the question is, why not do it?

Oh and just to add, since this is a Tech forum, the Fierce Attitudes were great. Not a single chunk and I had excellent traction. It started raining and hailing on us when we started up the Coyote trail and even on the wet granite I had good traction with dirt and mud all around. I'm really pleased with this tire. I wish they made a 37 without all the barbed wire design on it. My buddy said that they would just wrap themselves around any surface I came across. They are kind of loud on the asphalt though.

mate, youve wrecked your cruiser!

i would be in tears.

but, as long as your happy..

Not bad!!! I guess our big, oversized 80 IS pretty good out of the box hahaha! :D what were the minor mods on your truck?

I like this thread cause youve shown how it performs in stock form and what damage you'll see.

I dont like this thread cause youve taken a good looking 80 and dented the crap out of it.

Regardless, its good for the folks getting into it to have this info to see what they're up against.

Is that a crack I see on the bottom of the pumpkin and up the right side? I am glad that you had a good time on the trails, but I sure wouldn't have done that before a little armour (especially sliders).

:o You have a great attitude even with all that damage and bigger ones than me for doing it without any armor. Time to armor up I think.

Sent from deep in the mountains of Honduras using only sticks and rocks.

it's all about attitude.... good for you

Nah it's not a crack. It's where the silicon oozed out when I redid the rear end. It just looks strange. I do wish I had the sliders on before doing this but it's not the end of the world. I'm not to worried about looks. like I said I live right next door to a paint and body guy and he told me he could get most of it out. Not the rocker panels though. Those are shot. The scratches will be covered with bed liner soon anyway. That was the plan anyway. It will all be fixed before you know it.

Nice man! Balls to the walls

I'm excited to see what you put that thing through once you have some armor!!!! Nice pics, and as said above: positive wheeling, truck damaging attitude!
