Nice! I think body damage on 80s looks great. It reminds you of what they were intended for.

Anybody have pics of the control arm sliders - sounds like a great idea....

Uh... Why?

I hope you plan on keeping this cruiser forever, Because in reality? That truck is totaled.

Scratches...nice to see something used as engineered for!

If yours has no scratches or dents then that's abuse!

This rig was always to be used for wheeling when I bought it. Before the end of the year I'll be getting a motorcycle as a commuter and this will be a toy/crap weather vehicle.

Oh and just to add, since this is a Tech forum, the Fierce Attitudes were great. Not a single chunk and I had excellent traction. It started raining and hailing on us when we started up the Coyote trail and even on the wet granite I had good traction with dirt and mud all around. I'm really pleased with this tire. I wish they made a 37 without all the barbed wire design on it. My buddy said that they would just wrap themselves around any surface I came across. They are kind of loud on the asphalt though.

No barbed wire??? You might as well take the "fierce attitude" off the sidewalls too while you're at it. That's like no bullets on SS m-16s. Not sure what you're thinking here but everybody knows bullets and barbed wire make tires more bad***.

On a serious note those tires do perform well from what I've heard. Nice carnage and scenery.

the F150 bent both of his tierods about 200 yards into the Coyote Trail couldn't steer so he parked his truck at red lake and rode with me to Coyote, the next day when we picked up the truck and he broke his rear driver side axle shaft on the way out.

That's the part I love

got to have sill protection (sliders) sills are not easy to fix. front diff and transfer armor also very important imo. don't care about scratching/denting panels and smashing lights but trashing the sills on my cruiser like that would piss me off. like the pics of the silders/protection for the rear control arms, might have to do that thanks for the idea. i spend enough time fixing stuff, it's good to come back from going bush without having a heap of repairs to do.

better get my act together and finish building my half made set of new sliders sitting in the garage. good pics for motivation.

Each to his own I guess... I mean it's your cruiser so do what you want. Me personally I won't take ours off the path till all the protection on... We just have to much invested in it. El Guapo is almost ready for testing!

Nice! a couple more runs like that and you'll reach Creeper Sleeper status

He has a long ways to go before he gets to my status! :flipoff2:

When I first heard about this thread, I honestly thought it was going to be a lot worse. To be honest, you are on the same path that I was. Go read my threads, hopefully it will help you from learning the hard way on some things. Ultimately I decided that I needed something smaller and lighter for my wheeler and moved that direction but that was after I took my 80 so far down that path it wasn't worth bringing her back. My advice is to make sure you don't loose the things an 80 series is best at!

GL with the build, hopefully we will get to wheel together sometime.

You need to sell your runner and buy a nice station wagon. Toyota's were BUILT TO BEAT,:censor: YA

I guess that's my point to...sliders at the least. You can bang up the rockers so badly that you can no longer open the doors...where does that leave you? It's hard to "Dukes of Hazzard" a lifted 80...

If you bang them bad enough for that you can bang them back:doh:

Those SOB's told me the bullets would add 6 HP:doh:

funny, my insurance card classifies the vehicle as a "station wagon"

Lets see your fine attempt at "beating" your rig since you're so fond of the idea :)

I personally wouldn't worry about fixing it up. I'm not sure if mine had a straight piece of metal on it.

Allright, what about a skidplate? Is it sissy to protect your investment and attempt to extend the vehicle's ability to operate without costly repairs by protecting the transfercase, tranny and associated running gear?
