37's!!!! YES! what tire are you thinking of? Gonna stick with the KM2's? Did you upgrade your axles while you were putting the gears in? Can't wait for some Canadian road trips stories at the camp fire in a few weeks!
Did you regear yet?
I'm rocking 5:29's on 315's in anticipation of 37's...

I didn't upgrade the birfs. I did rebuild the axles 100% though.
I honestly don't push it too hard.....But I think looking into 37's or 38's I should look into Longs.

As far as tire brand I'm not sure, I like the toughness of the tire you snagged but I do like the KM2's as well and have had good luck with them.

Once again, nothing outta the ordinary....just documenting..
Deflared....took about an hour and a half this afternoon... and some touch-up superwhite II :hillbilly:

Reattached the stock mud flaps, might trim them up a bit. Two 10mm bolts at the trail and they're off. Hopefully the "nothing better to do's" will leave me alone, the tires really don't stick out too much (right officer?)...we'll see how it goes. Ratchet strapped the spare to the 3rd row bracket, for now. It's actually pretty secure. Tire carrier rear in the distant future.
Next- Fall Gathering 2012 in NH, in less than a week! Finally will get some decent wheeling pics, and see how the new treads do.

Do you have the fairlead for the winch mounted with just the 2 front bolts? I just bought the engo 12k for my new arb and I see the fairlead provided does not line up with the arb holes. I hear ppl just buy a warn fairlead and it bolts right up. Sucks to buy two. Rig looks sweet!!

figured i'd give my truck's thread a 7 month bump. time flies.

scrowley,
sorry i didn't respond, checked this thread the other day.... what did you end up doing for a fair lead? mine has been working fine with the two mounts, which also mount the bottom/back of the winch. winch has been great, used it about six times, so far so good. Want some synthetic and a hawse fair lead in a bad way. That steel cable frightens me pulling the whale tank.

Trucks been running great, here are a few pics of good times.

ok.... some tech

so last summer i swapped MAF CC brackets for Metal Tech plates, as the brackets interfered with the MT sliders. At this time i did not realize that plates + OME CC bushings = interference with tie rod and radius arms. I know everyone says you can't run both, but they were barely touching, so i popped the drag link and took a little off of the top of the radius arms. It stopped the rubbing, but things were damn close. Steering was wandering, pretty sketchy. Check page 1 for suspension stats.

So the other week, i notice i broke a rear sway bar link (i drive the truck once and a while, and mostly just to the trails). So i pulled the sway bars to see how it would ride. The next time i drove it, it felt..... BETTER. Didn't wander, track on the high way, and i could drive across expansion joints on bridges with out double handed white knuckles at 65mph.
(deep breath)
How is this possible? I'm waiting for Slee stock caster bushings and OEM radius arm/frame bushings, because i've read with the plates you can't run the yellow bushings. Did things settle? Nothing feels loose. I know I know, get my caster checked. Once I get the parts i will check before and after. Interesting though.... sway bar delete (i think that is unrelated) and caster is better?

^in the last pic you can see where the tie rod (not drag link) used to make contact with the top of the radius arm..... Look how far away it is now.......

That is the tie rod you are talking about. And you got plenty of room.

Oops. Thanks wrench, tie rod is what i meant to say :) So what would cause the caster to change? Worn out CC bushings? I guess i'll bring it to the shop to check the caster before i change to the slee bushings.

Possible with CC bushings and plates a bushing spun or something. Dunno.

Retrofive, it must be something weird like that.... I guess I'll find out this weekend when I pull the arms. Poor cruiser got sick of waiting and had to align itself!!!

Update: Wow. It's been 2 years 3 months since any update….. Figured I'd throw some pics up here to begin the next phase of the 80's life.
Plan is a chopped, bobbed, lined

internal cage 80. I've been reading up on everyone's chopped up 80 series threads….excellent inspiration and work… here's what I have so far: pulled headliner and necessary interior bits, rough roof cut delete. I will start a seperate thread for the progress, and questions I am bound to have for the community.

Going extreme huh?
