I have been scouring the interwebz for a couple years now looking for what I have built up to be my dream car. I have almost pulled the trigger on a few of them, but they were just not quite right. My criteria was LHD and air conditioning and rust free. I live in the midwest and A/C and rust free are a must for me. I am wayyyyy too old to be dealing with rusty old cars. Just sucks the fun out of it. @SammyT96LX450 has used his European connections to help me find countless rigs over the past year, none quite right.
Then @ace10 posted up this one on Bring a Trailer(BAT). I was new to BAT; however signed up to have a chance at this one.
The positives was under 100k miles, cold A/C, LHD, really clean interior, complete car, 5 speed, and rust free..
The negative was the engine is known to have issues and a really cheap paint job on it... I hate that as you dont' know what it is covering.
Well a few days later I was driving my truck / trailer to Chicago to pick it up. I wanted to inspect it personally to make sure it was not a rusty shell under that paint job. The seller, Ivan, was very nice and responsive and after inspection, I verified very truthful in his postings. Really was good to work with. He has dual citizenship in Spain and US, so able to find and get cars to the US much easier than you or I could.
The one issue is that the A/C does not blow cold. In fact the compressor does not engage. Don't know if it is low on Freon or if it needs major parts; however, he pledged to make this right. More about that later.
So, here I am, finally with my dream car. I am going to need lots of help from this 70 community to get it to where I want it to be. In the next 24 months, I forsee:
new engine
lift
bumpers
new shoes
rear locker?
new seats?
