Just purchased this 2000 100 series, a bit more rust than I would like but got it for a steal @ $5k. 175000 miles, Michigan truck. Looking to do some repair but ,mostly just rust treatment to prevent its spread. Love the car so far, drives great!

@rroverbkk @gearguywb @spaber05 @FOUR7TEE

Hey guys, finally pulled the trigger on an LX. I ended up getting a 2005 with 129,000 miles. A little bit surface rust but no biggie see photos of undercarriage here (Ultimate Rust / Undercarriage Thread). Serviced at Lexus, Timing Belt done, but not the wterpump :(

But anyway, thank you all (everyone in this thread) for helping guide my decision! See photos below.

Here is one that I am considering. Mid Atlantic car. It's an 06 LC with 165K miles. Waiting on service records. Based upon other comments from above, I'm guessing this is not much to worry about?

Hi all,

Lurker here, hoping to find a clean LC sometime in the next while.

I'm considering looking at this one https://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/4798742?ad_cid=4

I had the seller send me some pictures underneath -- there's a bit of rust on the frame, a bit on the hatch, and what looks like quite a bit on the fuel tank. Anything to be concerned about? Sorry about the rotation, the forum software seems to ignore that data.

tank cover is the first to rust. frame looks darn good. I rate it a 4 out of 10 on rust, meaning its not going to crumble into a pile of rust, but bolts and AC lines could be a pain in the butt.

I need to get some undercarriage photos but the 2000 LC w/ 195k I've got has never lived outside of NW FL, don't recall seeing much if any all.

Have an opportunity to buy a 2004 LX470 for around $13k, 88k miles.

Had the owner send some undercarriage pictures and I'm slightly uneasy (pitted/corroded spare caught my eye). It has lived it's entire life in the midwest. The low miles and price keep me holding on, but would love a second opinion on the underside.

Cpolice, I would walk away from that one but I know plenty of people who would buy it. Looks like a section of the exhaust was replaced (did the original pipe rot out?) also why does it have aftermarket rear shocks at that low mileage? Rust looks normal for a Midwest truck. I’ve seen quite a bit worse up here. Ask for service history and make sure at least that was done, last thing you want is a rusted truck that you also need to do all the mainetenance items on right away.

Before (original ‘98 LC frame):

and After (yesterday after 2nd coat of epoxy primer). It’s actually another frame from a LX470 that was worth saving :)

Thanks for the insight. I have a guy who can sandblast, just uncertain whether that would really make a difference here.

@rampantwolf Are you going to give us a video DIY on swapping over frames?!

If you have a 2-post lift, it’s pretty straightforward really. Unbolt the body and lift it off the frame. The way I did it is a bit more involved and I don’t recommend it. We started by pulling the motor, transmission and then the drivetrain which means you don’t have a roller. At that point swapping the frame is a no-brainer especially when I sourced a near perfect frame for $450 locally.

Working on cars is kind of like jumping off a cliff. Everyone is capable of the jump-off but does one have the fortitude to stick the landing lol

Just like everyone else I’m great at starting projects and taking stuff apart, that’s the easy part. Time will tell how well the project goes back together without looking like a Picasso self portrait lol

Wish me luck!

Price seems too high for that condition and age regardless off milage. Low miles high age is more likely to have all the rubber bits be stiff and deteriorating more than a car the same age and high miles

@rampantwolf You need to create a separate thread documenting your frame swap. There would be a lot of interest and it may motivate you to get it done. :grinpimp:

I still remember when Edd China did a frame swap on a Morgan on Wheeler Dealers - one of my favorite episodes!
