Hey all, just picked up a 98 LC and went around the frame with a screwdriver and besides the image below and some rust of the rear area, the frame seems pretty solid and it appears to have had an "undercoat treatment" although more likely just sanded and painted...

I noticed there is rot around the notorious rear cross-member (51207B) which I assume was covered up and ignored. I poked around here and it looks to be quite weak.

The top and the rear (spring facing side) are solid.

I have temporarily fluid filmed the area but was wondering if the entire crossmember would need to be replaced or if this is repairable?

Thanks in advance, this site has been incredible!

What’s the worst that can happen if you just leave it alone? How long you plan to keep this vehicle?

Hi there, first post. I have been looking for a Cruiser for a few years and stumbled across this site. I am currently deciding to pull the trigger on a 2013 with a 100k mi or a 2015 with 45k mi. The 2013 undercarriage had a coating, but I attached pictures of the 2015 which has significant rust. Can this be cleaned up and have a coating applied? How much $$$ are we talking?

Welcome to the forum. This is the 100 series forum, may want to drop into the 200 series area. That being said, rust is rust and that frame has already been coated and is obviously hiding plenty of rust. Can it be cleaned up? Anything is possible with enough time and money....but I'd run from that one. Plenty of rust free, clean examples out there.
