Most medication and antiseptics are still good way past their expiration date. THe FDA requires the date... But in many cases it was found to be arbitrary.... The DOD warehouses tons of prescription meds and after performing a study realized in many cases the expiration date was not accurate to determine efficacy. But you are probably refering to aspirin, Tylenol, h202, neosporin..... It's cheap insurance to replace them. Sunlight damages the h202, but unless everything else is 5 years past the date it's still probably okay...
And while we are at it, technically if you decide to take some pills out of your home bottle and carry them in a baggie, it's illegal because they are no being carried in an original labeld container...I go harrassed on that years ago for some aspirin....
