Who has been paying attention to the goings on here on mud.... YOU HAVE! ;-)

I DO have one that fits a little less-well than the other and I MAY be selling it - once the 40 is back together and I can test fit the 2 tops.... until then I'm holding on to both.

Yeah, I followed Rick's trail top thread and was about to buy one before things went bad. I really want a trail top, I am tired of the blue tarp.

Do these US-made tops slide into the channels in the pieces that go over the doors (between windshield and B-pillar)?

Do the Paki tops?

Travis and Scott,
All I can say is Lord in Heaven those tops look nice. Just give me some time to get past the engine swap and paint and we WILL talk about an order.
John

The black 3 window top as seen on eBay will be for sale in the classifieds tomorrow.....

Now that you have this top in your hands, can you give us an accurate review of it's fit and finish? It's difficult to tell exactly from the pictures.

1973 soft top

Im in for a full set of bows hardware and canvas black 7 window.

marcovgv@hotmail.com

let me know

Is there any idea of a possible price on these yet? Ballpark figure?

Bows ARE available. $500/set FOB San Jose, Costa Rica. These include the formed sheet metal around the doors and hardware to mount the bows but not the twist locks to anchor the soft top.

Naturally a bulk order is going to save shipping costs from Costa Rica.

I am not trying to cut on anyone or piss anyone off here but I saw Ocdbeetle's top in person as pictured on this thread. Take a good hard look at the loose sections on the top on his 40. It flapped like hell and there was no way to make the top tight. The top made so much noise going down the street that you couldn't talk. The cut and fit wasn't acceptable to me or Ocdbeetle. Ocdbeetle has OEM softtop bows. He sold the top 3 days after he bought it. Jim is just a real nice guy and doesn't want to hurt anybodys feelings. Again, softtopguy I am sorry if I have offended you it was not my intent. Jim and I are both are perfectionists and notice any flaws or fitment issues. I am sure that there are people on mud that wouldn't be so critical or nitpicky as we are. I do know that other OEM style tops that I have seen and rode in didn't flap near as bad and there was minimal noise from the top.

Constructive criticism is important at this point of development. Figuring out fit and finish must be based on a series of revisions. He's definately on the right track and will have a beautiful product if he listens to input. It is a much nicer looking top than that POS SOR is pedaling.

Pretty sure most of problems were based on the fabric used, I do know that travis is working on a top with some fitment changes and a different fabric that does not have the rubber backing.

This is why these tops are not being mass produced, let give him more time to get bugs worked out. I for one am glad he wants to get them right before he sells them.

I am glad the my observations are being taken in the manner that I expressed them. As an after thought I do have to say that the only problem we saw was the fit and not being able to tighten the top taught. I saw no problems with the materals. The materals used looked to be high quality. I am aware that all fabrics lend themselves better towards certain applications better than other uses. If he can get the materals and fit right I do believe that it would be a great top. One other issue was the strip of fabric that was at the windshield. It just flapped in the wind. We couldn't figure out why it was there. There was no way to secure it without drilling holes in the windshield frame and it only had two attachment points with no additional hardware to secure it.

Well that is ur problem??? Don't u have the channel for thr front windshield, if u don't then no wonder it was flopping all over the place

If that really is the problem I'm gonna have to laugh... I am very interested in the possibilities here and am eager to see a proper fitment... I truly hope it's just installer "error"...

OK...No laughing....unless you want to laugh at the top.....I have an OEM windshield channel.....That would have been funny though I suppose.....

It had about 1 1/2 of extra material flapping in front of the channel after the top was threaded into it....Really weird.....

I tried fitting and adjusting every way possible.......It werent pretty...... :(

Woytovich, I'm afraid the only way to get a proper fitment would be a different top.....I've done pretty well putting my 40 together and can assure you installation error wasnt at fault here ....I'd love to say it was me and not it.....but I cant.....My experience with it is over.....thankfully I didnt loose much for the experience....
