No pics because it was cold and got dark and I'm damn lazy. The 80 got a new alternator, belts, idler pulley (probably wasted money, but I already had it on hand), AC adjuster pulley, Duralast 24F-AGM battery and a couple fuses for good measure. Brakes are not only bled, they're POWERbled (Motive for the win)!

Reminder for the newbies - do not leave your keys sitting in the truck when disconnecting the battery unless you have a window down or another key handy. The locks will cycle closed upon reconnection.

I lied. I have some pics.

Shiny new custom cap for the Powerbleeder.

Shiny new idler pulley. Note the missing alternator tensioner. Now we know. And knowledge is power.

This is what my helper did. Played with a cat toy, drank coffee and loaded mags with shiny new bullets. Important work.

Did you get an OEM idler pulley? I think I need to replace mine. I have a lot of underhood squeal and my belts are properly tensioned.

Since moving to "civilization" and having to give up my shop, garage space has been a big issue. So I couldn't keep a nice fat compressor like in the old days :crybaby:. For a few years I've made due with this cute little Makita that was quiet, but overworked. Last week it finally died. I was chatting with my neighbor who said he had an old construction compressor I could have. COOL! But when I fired it up discovered both tanks had rust holes in them :bang:. Refusing to give up (and having no $$$ for a new unit) I dust off the welder to fab up something that will fit under my workbench.

Best part .... Up from 4.2 CFM @ 90psi to 6.5 CFM @100psi. The two small tanks on the compressor are connected in series to an old 220 CF argon welding tank I no longer use so it doesn't cycle every 20 seconds.

Yeah. But I found a lot of 80 people saying to just remove it and forget about it.

Agree .... unless it's the AC idler or the other possible, AC Clutch bearing. Easy test ... pull the AC belt off (5 minutes) and see if that's the issue.

I pulled the Cruiser in Friday night in preparation for replacing the tie rod ends over the weekend. Sunday when I lifted the truck, I found a spot of fluid on the ground. It appears that my steering box seals have gone from a slight leak to a big leak. I'm debating whether to rebuild or replace the steering box.

I did get the tie rods ends installed on the tie rod. I'm waiting for a steering stablizer to arrive Tuesday before I tackle the drag link.

I moved the 80 out of the way yesterday to get the 40 out and the brakes were not working properly. I had to push hard to get it to stop. Today during lunch time i replaced the brake buster and i am back in business.

Finished engine bay shot. Moonshine is back in business!!

Where is the cold air box?

Brit got called in so we got in the 80 to drop her off and..click click. Battery sitting at 9.2 volts. Used the Aux battery to crank it.

My current battery is a Gold Advance Battery installed at 5/2015, so it didn't last nearly as long as expected.

My question is what battery should I go with, I'm thinking AGM. I'm hesitant to put an Optima in there, and there is a lot more AGM options available today than there was in 2007, Last time I bought an Optima.

I did this last week. I started soaking everything with Kroil Oil a week in advance. Everything came apart with minimum effort.

I personally have had pretty good results with an AGM, but for the cost, it did't really out perform a standard lead acid battery. I purchased the AGM instead of going dual batteries when i installed the fridge. It worked great for about 2-3 years and then it was toast. I believe that AGM battery was around $289, which was $$$! I ended up finally going with dual batteries and i'm using Costco lead acid.

They are cheap and work great. Plus they are warrantied pretty well. I also have a solar panel so if i'm parked for a long period of time i can use the solar to charge the house battery.

I just put a Duralast Platinum 24F-AGM in the 80. $200 at Autozone. 3year warranty. It was about $60-70 more than the traditional style. It sat overnight with the Envirocooler drawing on it but I’m pretty sure it’ll start!

Batteries Plus sells a similar priced Duracell AGM with a 4 year warranty. Couldn’t find one in stock locally. They also sell a brand for $300. I didn’t consider it because it’s called blah blah Extreme (my hatred of that marketing word is well documented). And it was $300. Should I have put that last part in the Rant Thread??

Costco carries Interstate Batteries which have had good customer reviews in the past. Until AGM prices drop more I'm sticking with Pb acid.

(Comes in EXTREME if you want to give JohnVee the :flipoff2:)
