Trying to make the most of the last few days of warm weather. LX got new OEM shocks (with a side trip to @roadstr6 for some air tool action) and CDL switch clean. Much better and more truck-like now. 80 got new hood struts, CDL switch cleaning, front calipers and 100 Series pads. It gets rear brake love and new fluid tomorrow along with rear axle seals if I can avoid too many distractions. Battery is probably coming due for replacement but I gotta test the alternator for wonkiness first. Also hope to solve my mystery of the AT Oil Temp idiot light staying on from startup.

Hood struts .... OEM or aftermarket? Part #?

Like my lift gate struts from Gasstrutguys, Sarah got me these. Not sure of $$ but they fit well and work dandy. Slightly different from OEM in that the strut presses onto the ball end bolt instead of being integral with it. Came with all hardware. Strongarm Struts.

I got the strong arms for the hood. And lift support depot for the hatch.
Didn't really intend to split brand. But got on amazon. Super easy to install and make a heck of a difference.
I got an aux fan that I'm hooking up soon. Mounting sucked since I lack fab-skills. Plan to run the AC pressure and manual switch.
Having to reverse the +/- wires to make it a pusher. Making the harness now then will hook up.
If I get a wild hair, I may get all stabby with my hood and put in a set of hood vents.

Hey Rice, I got my hood struts from Amazon. was about 30 bux for the pair Came with all the hardware required.

I need to replace my hood struts. I've been bopped in the head a few times.

Yup ... found them on Amazon matching the johnvee part number. A tight $ month for me so stuck them in my "wish" list. (I'm happy to provide a link to my wish list for anyone here). :D

Partial rear axle rebuild today in the rain. Did passenger side seals and cleaned/repacked bearing. Also pressed out the old lugs and pressed in the new OEM lugs. Topped them off with some new OEM lug nuts. More to come tomorrow.

Cruiser Outfitters tie rod end kit.

I've noticed the steering has been sloppy lately.

I purchases some of those a while ago from Man-A-Fre and they did not last. I figured since they were "made in japan" that they were top shelf. My experience was not so.

Interesting... The three five or 555 comes highly recommended unless you get the counterfeits. I didn't know that there was such a thing as knockoff tie rod ends until I started searching. The only way to tell is if you got a really good deal on the tie rod ends.

Maybe i got the knock-offs. I am not sure. I've never posted about it because i do see a lot of people ordering them and maybe there is a difference. I ordered a set (it's been a while ago, maybe like 5 years ago or more) and swapped them in. The boots were rotted, the metal joint was rusted and it got sloppy within 6 months. By a year, they were toast. I went back to OEM and couldn't be happier .

I just installed the 555 on mine. Curious to see how they hold up as well

I hope that they have gotten better or that i got a knock off. report back in a few months and let us know.

The 555's I put on the 40 were awful. Cracked open boots inside a year (and the 40 was in the garage most of that time .... under 1000 miles of use)

So far, made coolant lines, installed a fuse box on the ps fender, insulated the new hood I got through @jfz80, then installed it! Getting close now. Had I not forgotten I used a set of battery terminals for another project, I would have been driving Moonshine today. Oh well, soon enough!
