Turned the ole lug wrench a few times today to mount up my new (to me) 37x12.50x16 Maxxis Creepy Crawlers. These things are heavy as hell!! The added width should be helpful on the trails. Crazy thing is....I checked the pressure in the tires after taking these pics and they were at barely over 0 psi. It'll be interesting to see how the sidewalls flex at trail pressure. I don't think traction will be an issue though!
I will need to do some clearancing in a couple of places to make sure they don't rub, but it shouldn't be too bad.

I had been planning on buying a new core support, but realized I had a lot of modifications ahead of me. Ended up carving up my current core support to fit an intercooler:

When I changed drive flanges on the 80 I also found the end play on the birf shaft was over specs. Toyota adjusts end play by using different thickness snap rings. So I pulled off the 90520-31007 (2.4 mm) and put on 90520-31005 (2.8 mm).
Pretty weak, huh?

Seriously, Rice? I could turn that into a 2-week project just figuring out what you're talking about then just refill the washer bottle and call it good.

Is this similar for 40 and 60 series? Where does one view a selection of different thickness snap rings?

You will have to work much harder to do much less to get close to boundaries. I don't mean to name any names here, but . . .
Yes it is, but IMHO it matters not, because it's part time 4WD. As long as a snap ring is there, you're fine.
Last few days to work noticed a humming/grinding on the front end of the truck. Did the left/right driving test and the truck got quiet when I turned hard to my right and stayed the same as I turned to the left.
Lifted and each side independently and did the pry bar under the tire up / down / side to side. Checked LBJ's while down there . .but anyhoo -
Looks like I have a LOT of play on the driver's side. Not a ton of noise while you spin it, but I would say >1/4" play in the wheel/tire via the pry bar test.
Took the tire off, spacer off, dirt cap off. I tried the old "tighten-up the bolt" that holds the axle, but apparently I don't own a 1950s farm implement and yes the previous owner serviced it at FSM ~173 ft/lbs of torque - - so that means it was tight.
Looks like I need to replace the bearings.
Now the questions:
Does anyone have a press that can handle these hub bearings? I can take everything down to the knuckle at my house and bring the knuckle over - just need to press the old ones out and the new ones in.

Intercooler lower mounts fabricated and welded on after work. Super solid! Going to pretty them up before final prep for paint, but I'm happy with how it came out.
Drive straight thru from Oshkosh to Greensboro yesterday. Got home at 515am.
It will be mustache removal when I can get the energy go actually move. Then onto unloading. can't wait to get rid of the knee whacker hitch extension

My Sunday project. Decided to pull the roof rack and get rid of the gold color. The roof needed a heavy dose of scrubbing so here we go.
