12v electronics are not my specialty and I am having troubling figuring out where I need to ground second battery in my dual battery setup. I don't know if I need a chassis ground, a block ground, or frame ground. With the staring battery being grounded to both the block and the chassis, and my lack of knowledge I am not sure if one is better, or is one required and the other not. Any help will be appreciated.

Any of these help? As far as I am concerned you can never have enough grounds.

So there is no "right way" to ground it? I was going to use the block ground, where the firewall grounds to the block, I was also planning on using the factory 91-92 ground. I'm just not sure where that is yet

I do not know where you battery and grounds are located so with that in mind...

It never hurts to add a new primary ground to the frame, body and the block. Generally there is another ground between the body and block at the fire wall. Running your ground to the termination point on any of those should give you proper grounding. A great many electrical issues in Toyotas can be traced to ground issues. I generally run several extra grounds directly back to the battery on builds in the shop for just those reasons. I always run grounds back to the battery for Aux lights ect. Separate ground to the dash for gauges etc. When it comes to ground, suspenders and a belt!

Thanks Stan

Definitely ground early, ground often. I need to redo my lx450's ground. I think that could be part of the intermittent starting issue. When I took the starter to the local starter/alternator place to match up a plunger and contact kit, she said that I should look athte grounds. There was some blackening on the back side that is usually a bad ground. Considerin shes been doing it for 30+ years, and looked like she could kick my butt 5 ways to Sunday, I should look into that. ;)

Anyone know what bolt size these threaded holes are right behind the front cross member?

Probably 8mm

Thanks, plan to use the one on the inside of the frame rail for the 3rd ground for the 2nd battery.

91 grounds on the fender and on the frame

You dont happen to have a picture of where it grounds on the firewall do you?

yeah I typed the response twice for some reason but it is the fender and frame I can snap some pics in morning when I am tearing out my interior if you would like.

Went to tractor supply to get the exide 27MDCST for my second battery. On the way home I had to swerve to miss someone that pulled out and the milk crate I had the battery in went tumbling. It me about 45 seconds to get off the road, acide leaked out and ate through the carpet. It also leaked through the gap by the 3rd row seats. Got home pulled the carpet and treated everything with baking soda. I think I got it all; and all this to find the 27 is too tall
