John that's one of my favorite mods. lol. I need to get mine put on. Sadly no pics but installed a new lift jack on the trailer last night. Gotta cut the old one off still. Also have a new wiring kit to redo all the lights. Also put a new belt tensioner on the Mustang. Brakes and underdrive pulleys going on this weekend hopefully.

Non LC wrenching... Baby girl calls me Saturday eve, Luigi the fiat is spewing white smokie out of the tail pipe while she is sitting on ramp off 485. Told her to pulled over, turn it off, get out. It was in the middle of the Greatfull Dead concert traffic, so white smoke from cars was not a rare sign!;)

Dad to the rescue with land cruiser, took to dealer and they diagnose common issue, PCV clogged, o-ring leaking. Long story, fiat forum visit told me what to do so I was able to replace PCV part from dealer and o-ring from hardware store at her apartment lot. This giant plastic thing is the PCV valve on a fiat 500, leaks and oil collects on engine, overflows into exhaust and you get the blown engine look. It is under the airbox, $65 later....all fixed.

Didn't take any pics of me working on fiat, would look like a little biatch compared to the big manly rigs you gents work on!

Thanks to Johnny for dealing with my disorganization and finishing this project that took one year to complete. Baselined at 165k, fresh head, fresh head gasket and all hoses/lines/filters/etc, should give me another 165k presuming continue to give proper maintenance.

Once I get the e-lockers swapped in and the t-case with Marlin gears, our beloved 80 should give us adventures for many years to come.

Thanks @GLTHFJ60 for getting us back on the road and back home...

Before finishing Brutus, Joe came over and we got his rear Springs swapped out for hurricane creek!

More non cruiser work this weekend. Brake job on Stacy's Yukon and my Mustang. Also worked on the car trailer a bit. Eventually I am gonna put in some time on my Cruiser.

Don't feel bad Eric, I have been wanting to get some maintenance work done on Heather's 80 for over a month. She just got an Avalon to replace the dead Volvo so at least the 80 is around more often.
I am liking the Avalon :)

Did quite a bit of non cruiser work (well I guess actually everything I do these days is non cruiser work :censor:).

Brake job on my brother in laws car, oil and tranny fluid change on my mom's car, did some more restoration of the inner wood paneling on the suburban

Before and after shot

Then finished putting together building Andrea's anniversary gift for our upcoming anniversary.

Then when I thought I was done for the weekend somehow got roped into building pallet furniture for my sister and helping my neighbor build the firework stand for our neighborhood firework show on the 4th.

Gonna be pretty cool he has on order about 500 shells most of them 4" or above morters, some 12" ones even. Biggest i've ever shot off at some of the profesional shows i've done in the past are 10" ones... those are normally the big and loud ones you see at pro shows.

Here's a pic of setting up at the last pro show I helped put on up at Bryson city 2 years ago.

Surprisingly the background check and license to do these isn't that hard. I am on register with the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI I think now.

Sadly I won't be able to actually shoot off these ones this year because i'll be just pulling back in to my house that night after 4 days on the road from Charlotte. And i'm not messing around with that kind of firepower after 4 days of 12+ hours of driving.

Last pic is me hand setting off the 4 inch shells from that show. Anything above 4" we normally wire up to a control board and set of electronically.

I re-curved the distributor on the 60 last night as a follow-up to the desmog that I did a couple of months ago. The truck runs like a raped ape now...well, not really. It runs better. A lot better.

I need to do that on my desmogged 2F. Hard to do? Got a flat spot at 1/4 throttle.

I see a new side line for you Dave :)

It took me a couple of hours (mostly removing and re-installing and setting the timing. Actual bench time was 20 minutes. Cost me a whopping $17 in parts. Check out the last couple of posts in my Turdle thread for details: The Rushing Turdle

Morris and I did some late night wrenching tonight. We removed the running boards from the 100.

Works like a champ!!

Here's a puzzler. @stevezero pay attention. I noticed that this Leslie amp had a bad 12AU7 2 weeks ago (the one in my hand). I swapped it out and left it until yesterday when I noticed the replacement had gone bad, too. Now, this amp has not seen power in almost 3 months. I'm wondering if the caps are able to hold a strong enough charge to break the seal over that time period and, if so, what caused the short to happen and cause this. Time to call my crusty old vintage gear tech.

Yes, for the rare person seeing this who knows what I'm dealing with, that's an NL8 connector in place of the 6-pin. I'm slowly converting all Hammond and Leslie to NL8

image.jpg

I would say yes, some of those capacitors can store huge loads. Being a former Navy crypto tech, where all gear is analog, I'd been zapped by many an undischarged cap. But, that's just some ancient brain cells trying to bring back those old troubleshooting techniques.

Yep, I know they can store a charge, just don't how long. Been zapped many times - the original input on it is a 6-pin EXPOSED male connector; one of those pins carries 120v from the organ (to power the Leslie amp). Ahhh, the good old days before lawyers got involved!
