Thanks, very clean design. I have not been a fan of tube bumpers on 80s. However this one I like and could be adapted to work on an 80. Two thumbs up to who ever build it.

the radiator support is almost a foot posterior to the front of the frame rails. here is a pic of some 37" swampers I am about to mount on my truck tonight. notice how far back and high the support is. the front of my bumper is 1/4" out past the front of frame rail. there is little to be gained cutting that radiator support. however if the support is removed or modified you can draw a straight line from the bottom of frame rail to corner of fender. I have 4" slee springs and no spacer. the axles are on stands

it is true that climbing obstacles one wheel at a time can make things easier when approaching a ledge and thus approach angle is of lesser import. but the limitations of poor approach are most quickly realized when comming down that ledge where one is forced to take the line strait down so as to avoid a roll.

in the last pic you can see there is still room in the posterior front well even with a 37. (rear is a little diff)

Other than 5" of front tire exposure, which happens to be alot of gain.

I like what you've done by cutting the frame rails and it looks nice, but just because you did not take the modified approach that I did does not make it moot.

Friend its not a bad idea and I have done far crazier mods to my truck. And your mod is of even more value to those who arn't running big lifts and tires. and its good to see you are reinforcing the radiator support.

I did not cut the frame rails. that is how close you can build the bumper without cutting the frame. you can actually go several inches closer if you cut. when I mount my removable winch it will sit high in front of grill to maintain this approach

Bumper is done and installed! I'm very happy with the cuts i made and they match the bumper. But most importantly happy with the bumper!
Check it out! my friend and fabricator did me right!:bounce:

I don't know if this is the place to post this, but in doing this project with my fab friend, he tells me he'd be willing to duplicate this bumper and or modify it to meet others needs (i.e. the ac dryer). He too easy to work with and his price was right.
Friday we're starting bumperettes:bounce:

I might note that I asked for a "bare-bones" bumper and had alot of influence in the way it looked.

Well... don't know. I'm missing going to the Razorback Ramble today... and I'm not going to get to show off my sweet new mods.:frown:

What did you pay for this? (if you feel comfortable answering)

Well... I can tell you this, it's DOM 1.5" 120 wall and 1 3/4 156 wall, so the raw material cost was up there but without him giving you a price, I bet it can be cheap if not painted... I'll ask him.

Turned out real nice! I like it. Off topic, how did you paint your grill? What paint etc.

Rustoleum in a small can and a foam brush... it's mona lisa style... very ugly up close.

Do u think he would like to try something out for a LC 100?. I am trying to put a winch without removing the OEM bumper
Thanks

Hey everyone, I am Brad owner of Painless Fabrication and the guy that built the FJ-80 bumper in this thread. If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me brad@painlessfab.com

FJason80 - The bumper in this post is $295.99 raw and $395.99 powder coated ( I'm trying to find a cheaper powder coater thats not to far away)

TXLX470 - I am up for making about anything, I don't have access to a 100 series but I can build off of dimensions

it's nice how more and more of the available bumpers, and those that people are custom making, have an angle to the front of them rather than trying to punch a ledge straight on, you get a little lift action going.

Looks good.
