side bar construction.
they run even with the outside of the 35" boots.
the mounting plates will be 4 grade 8 bolts with bottom lip that wraps the frame on the inside by 1 1/4"
the pipe is then welded to the plates with a 6" by 3" gusset .
the sliders then mount 3/4" below the sheet metal.
the sliders are also air tight to be a dual air tank for the york compressor.
Monday we will start on the rear fender protection.

No need for the new 70 series air bag dash...has own built in air bags! :smokin:
 
This may have been discussed, but, which motor's destined for this beastie?
 
I prefer the u-bolt style attachment for sliders vs drilling through the frame, but prefer drilling vs. welding straight onto the frame.

X2 .. I always try to avoid the welding over the frame part ..
 
welding to the frame is acceptable
if
done properly

what i don't like is you can not remove the part in case of damage. you have to remember this is NOT a big rig frame, they have restrictions as to welding. if you take a close look at a 70 frame you will see it is full seam weld top and bottom from the factory, same with the tube that goes from side to side.

so the owner wanted the front fender protection to be removable, i wanted the strength to still be there and i wanted to follow the fender detail as close as possible.
the front mount is into the factory frame horn extensions and the rear is a hinged, bolted mount.

complex, compound bends are a joy to figure out but i love the new bender!!
1" clearence front to back.
easily removed and reinstalled and yet very strong.

starting on the front bumper. the bumper horn ends will be tied to the side bars for verticle reinforcement.

long ways to go.

custom intercooler with a Denco turbo ...


water to air this time? That frozen boost has the same intercoolers as the denco kits now. I think you could build the whole set up for about half the price if not less.
 
i am not a big fan of water to air, air to air is simple and effective for this application. water needs its own water system, more items to fail. this truck is heading for remote areas where parts will be 'interesting' to locate.
 
Damn, you've got quite a list there to complete! The barwork is looking great so far and i'm sure the finished troopie will be awesome.

I would agree with this if the vehicle is moving more than 50KPH, otherwise I like water to air, works all the time no matter what speed you are runnning at.

Maybe not as affective as air to air at speed, but these are not ricers....:popcorn:
