need a little help 80 series community.

I blew a rear wheel bearing doing the alpine loop in Colorado. I have rounded up all the parts aside from the rear outer seal.

I am having my cruiser towed from lake city to Durango. Does anyone have a rear axle nut socket? I left mine at home in TN...

I have to drive the family/ trailer back to TN on Friday.

The shop that did my locker apparently cross threaded the nut... so that sucks.

First time my 80 has left me stranded.

I don't have good internet so if you can help please text or call 865-755-6663

My rear lock nut SST broke. Tried welding it, broke again. I do not have an extra rear seal.

Cross posted this to our clubhouse forum. MUD member looking for help

You can try Bill's Toy Shop in Farmington for the seal but I think he might be out of town. 505 325-4388. He is not on the forum. This is my primary reference for Toyota work. If I can't fix my LandCruiser it goes here.

In Durango try these two shops:
Built to Last. 970 259-8777
McNeal's. 970 426-5439 (more of a Jeep shop but does all 4x4, I've never dealt with them personally)

Thanks guys,

Got the truck towed to Durango... going to work on it in the morning. Will try to round up missing parts there. @beno I may take you up on a ups trip... will message you with an update Tommorrow

You can use a hammer and a punch or chisel if you are in a jam and need to install/remove the nut.

I think this is right. For a "trail fix" you dont need the sst. I have a sst but i am in nothern WY. So not much help. You could always replace the parts without the sst. Should get you to Onur or someone like Slee and let them do it right.

Getting all the parts overnighted to to you in a box might be the best bet. They could come from Denver area (Onur) or maybe Albuquerque area. Dont let this kill your trip. Durango is a nice little place. Let the family enjoy the town and you source your parts. Maybe grab a cheap rental car for two days so you and the family are mobil a in town.

A wheel bearing should be a quick fix once you have the parts.

what size is the rear wheel hub socket? Is it a 55MM? If so I have one, and I'm in Durango. Tried calling but got VM.

So I can't get the axle nut off, the shop that did my rear locker cross threaded the nut. It will need to be torched off I think.

I have everything except the outer seal.

At this point I am thinking a junk yard full assembly may be better. Anyone know of a parts 80 I could come pull the rear hub and spindle?

I hate to break the bad news but the rear spindle is part of the axle housing.:( You will want to carefully cut the axle nut off (dremel) with the hopes of getting the threads to work.

If comes down to needing a rear axle housing:frown::eek: Reach out I know of one just outside of Telluride.;)

Well boogers

I am going to try and cut off the nut and clean up the threads.

I ordered a new nut from @cruiseroutfitters
Which should be here today

Still struggling to find an outer seal

Still struggling to find an outer seal

If you are talking about the inner axle seal it should not be a problem if not found. 100's of 80 are running around with a same bad seal. You bearing will be lubed just like most other vehicles with full floating axles with gear oil.
