So I got the 465 in, SOA done, but don't have time to measure and order shocks before a club ride on Saturday. It's fairly mild East Coast stuff w/ very little technical stuff. There aren't any crazy hillclimbs or anything, but they aren't exactly gravel roads either (Uwharrie Nat. Forest). Any opinions on running w/o shocks ONLY on the trails - I will be trailering there.

'78 FJ40, flipped front, SR, FJ55 rears, SM465, 3spd gears in 4spd case

Thanks for your opinions.

Going to be bouncing around without the shocks to control things....

:meh:

Did you check to see if it would be okay with the club? They may not let you.

If it were me, I wouldn't do it, but I would still attend the ride as a spotter/photographer instead.

Thanks Fellers, bouncy I can deal with, just don't want to be unsafe / dangerous.

Yeah, finished the antiwrap a couple of days ago. I used DOM, Johny Joint and shackle, and RuffStuffs axle end kit. RuffStuff is awesome too!!! Dan is the man.

WILD BILL!!! Good call !!

Or Barry either...that's a stinky proposition :)

Hey WTF????:flipoff2:
I go browsing around in the 40 section at random and I hear diesel bad mouthing?
Fine....I will load with bio before the next ride. Better not smoke any funny stuff or it will drive you crazy.

Pictures are coming, but camcruisers' writeup was def a reference for me - Thanks dude!

My skid came out pretty sweet - I used a custom 465 adapter machined from 1" 6061 plate and clocks the tranfer up a bit. The skid is about 2" bleow the framerails and completely flat - 3/16" plate mounted to 3/8" angle and 1/4" square frame. Damn thing weighs more than a drunken one night stand. It also serves as the mount point for the antiwrap and tranny/transfer support (stolen from treeroot's writeup).

Everything cool in life comes at a price Barry! Hope you are doing well - just jabbin' at ya'

No worries....
It's my daily driver now, so I actually have to smell it every day when I start it up at 30 deg.
I hooked up the glow screen, but it still stinks until it warms up fully. Oh well. :)

Hi All:

Har, har! That is a great line!

anything i can do to help

Well, there is some mud and paint work from cutting the fenders, frame could use whirewheeling and paint, hell - 2F could prolly use a rebuild... need I go on

I haven't run rear shocks for a year or so, no ill effects noticed. They;re on my list to do, though. Not running fronts may prove different though. Good Luck !!
