Since the OP is in MS, it is a Gulf States region Toyota dealer he is going to.

GST is a distributorship based out of Houston, TX. They control the right to Toyota parts distribution in the Gulf region.

GST has their own “value line” of CV axles that they sell through their dealerships. Toyota allows them to do so as an “approved service parts replacement.”

These are generally Cardone remanufactured CV shafts.

For factory OEM part replacement, Toyota does not offer a remanufactured/value line for the Land Cruiser series vehicles. New only: 43430-60040.

These are manufactured by JTEKT which is a subsidiary of the Toyota Group and a combination of Toyoda Industries, JTEKT, and Koyo.

Thanks for the info. I try to buy all of my parts from outside of the GST region. Unless it's a nut, bolt, or washer, or something minor. I had to undo some GST mods to my Tacoma. They also come out with some weird GST only trim options.

As you can see here, this is what OEM new looks like:

And as I indicated earlier, the shaft is manufactured by Toyoda Industries/JTEKT:

The rubber boots are manufactured by Toyoda Gosei (indicated by their “TG” logo) which is a main Toyota Group company that manufactures many rubber parts for the Land Cruiser series vehicles historically.

GST operates their own parts depot in Sealy, TX which is where your parts originate when they come to your dealer.

There are only two Toyota distributorships left in the US: GST and SET (Southeast Toyota). There used to be many more but as Toyota developed the US market, they bought out the distributorships. GST/SET are the remaining distributorships and yes, they do have their own vehicle accessory packages (called, PIO or “Port-Installed Options.”) that are outside of normal TMS, USA vehicle accessory packages.

Last week, of October 2020. I saw an online Toyota Dealership Parts dep., started charging a cord charge of $40 for FDS. I confirmed this with my local Dealership parts department.

May just be a glitch in software. But if not, indicates they be offering OEM rebuilt through Toyota soon.

I direct my online purchases to come from the SET region.

On balance, look at it down the middle using an example.

The fuel pump just died, and rust is becoming an issue on the rig despite best efforts. The rig has 227,734 miles on the original fuel pump. The chassis may have 5-7 years left before it gets terminal since it is in a state with inspections.

You always use Mr. T parts. Do you go full blown factory OEM fuel pump or get the value line Mr. T option?

Not my situation, but I'd get the value line option and bank the savings towards a rust free 200 series.

I mean, really, when your door lock actuator motor(s) died, did you get the common Amazon replacement or pay for the whole Mr. T OEM replacement assembly?

That's a good argument. We don't really have rust issues around here so you can theoretically drive your truck forever if you look after it. I suppose if you are driving around in a 20 year old POS then the cheaper parts make sense.

But do they?

Nothing burns more than doing the same job twice to replace a POS part... then wondering if you want to replace it with another POS part or OEM.

GST and SE Toyota have some shady ass suppliers and the parts department won't always be upfront with you over what's OEM Toyota and what is "value line" and reman s***.

Your missing the point. The thought is that the vehicle is at a stage that the cheap part will likely last longer than the vehicle itself.

Good info-

As I stated above, there are no remanufactured OEM shafts for the Toyota Land Cruiser for factory parts replacement. Only new OEM as pictured above.

The core charge is incorrect and wrong. There are no core charges on new OEM parts.

Toyota will NOT be offering a remanufactured part for service parts replacement in non-distributorship dealer parts departments.

Do you have a contact for a source that will not charge a core? Every avenue I've searched is now charging a $40 core charge for 43430-60040.

Since you are in the SET distributorship, this might be a charge they are charging in that region only. Toyota Motor Sales dealerships do not have this core charge. You need to find a non-SET/GST Toyota dealership. Try a Toyota dealership in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, etc. Someplace outside of the Southeast US or the Gulf States.

I did, all online. All of them are charging a core.

Weird- I just checked and McGeorge, toyoptapartsdeal, EB, ATL south, all charging a $40 core charge- thats new.

I bought a pair from my Colorado dealer last year, no core charge.
Just looked today at the same dealer and now it's a $40 core charge (and about a $30 price increase from 7/2019 when I bought).
Glad I did a pair last year I guess.

That's weird. I would call McGeorge and see what's up. I ordered from McGeorge a year or two ago, no core charge. If I add that to my cart now, there's a $40 core charge.
