Might as well go one size bigger on the drill. Thermostat housings are still available last I knew.

I think I’ll just jb weld it shut for now. I was going to install this water temp sensor there for a more accurate secondary gauge but I think I’ll just abandon that for now. I’ve spent enough money on this project already and I don’t need to go buying more tools right now unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Treading it into the block drain is a direct fit. No issues.

Thanks fellas! It’s been a wild ride to say the least. The spot where I’ve done most of this work is about a five minute walk to three different auto stores and a half hour walk to harbor freight. We have done a lotta walkin’ this past year lol.

I’m not sure I could have done it without having access to my friend’s garage on occasion or being so close to the parts stores. Not to mention all the neighbors around here have no problem with me tearing my truck apart for a week and having tools and parts scattered everywhere. One guy came up to me and said he was impressed how quick I was working. I thought he was gonna tell me to get lost. An other kid blew the engine in his Silverado and we became friends sharing tools though he didn’t speak much English and I don’t speak much Spanish. Been ups and downs for sure but moments like those make it worth while.

Plugged that hole. Should hold up just fine. Turns out the sniper water sensor fits into the tstat housing perfectly so I’ll use the other port for this purpose and leave the drain petcock in place on the engine block.

Began modifying the heat shield and adapter to fit on the intake manifold. Sourced some long shank Allen head bolts to sandwich the two together. Not finished. The rest will be tedious I suspect.

And I finally got the steering gear box removed.

I thought these were studs holding the box to the frame with welded nuts inside the frame. Two of the nuts broke free just fine but the other two spun freely and I panicked thinking I had broken the welded nuts inside the frame. I laid down on the driveway to die inside when I noticed the bolt heads on the back side of the frame... 🤣🤣🤣

I managed to mangle this grease boot pretty good when pulling the tie rod. I have replacement boots that came with the set when new. Any tips on replacing it?

Headers and intake are installed! After battling with cut washers and trying to close some gaps I think I’ve got it workable. We will see how this remflex gasket performs...

This is the only spot that really gives me pause....

Power steering pump all torn down. Tip for those looking to do this in the future: use your bracket from the block as the SST to hold the body while you pull things apart. Once you get to the point where you are removing the fixed ring from the back side of the body you’ll be confused as to how to get a grip on it to pull it out. I used a framing hammer and tapped with a bit of authority on the body and the fixed ring walked its way out slowly. Be gentle. Also.... watch out for those slippers and springs... yikes! They wanna fly all over the place! Lucky me I found them all..

Why did you not ditch this piece? I have a plate with a brass fitting on it attached to my brake booster.
