Hi,

@Honger 's restoration thread attracted me to ih8mud the day I bought my BJ40, and I have been hooked since then to this forum and different posts, which have educated me, as a newbie, a lot about 40 Series.

Well, here is my rig. Bought it in July 2016, received beginning of October 2016, handed over to the workshop by end of October 2016 and the painstakingly slow progress of restoration is ongoing.

Back home in Pakistan, we do not have many state of the art restoration facilities. The workmanship standards are also not what you would expect elsewhere in the world. After some research and a personal reference I managed to find a restoration enthusiast mechanic (a crackhead like me) who agreed to take it up as his and mine first proper stock restoration project, with slight modifications (conversion to front discs from drums, power steering, and addition of AC).

Making the use of the best available resources, the restoration is ongoing, below are a few updates:

that is a 77 or 78 , maybe 79 on paper but if you order parts , 79 won't fit
nice project , keep posting the evolution with lot of pics
Yes, it is on papers as 1979, but Manufacturing seems to be from 78.

I will periodically update the thread with more posts, as with each update I can only add 5 images. Currently the frame is painted, waiting for a test fit of body panels for proper panels alignment. Here are a few recent before vs after paint on frame, comparative photos

going fast

Won't call it fast :) The shop guys have preferred their regular day works on restoration for tooo many days, than is acceptable. They just picked up the momentum last week and have slowed down this week again. Part of the problem is that I am not there myself.

Looking good

Thanks :)

You might not have the restoration shops that we have here... but... we do not have the craftsman that you have there for sheet metal :)

Yeah, the floor panels had to be made by hand being an older model tub. The popular FJ40 models in Pakistan are from the 80's and the limited amount of manufacturers available for FJ40 body panels cater to those models mostly. Importing the panels from elsewhere in the world is way too expensive and no body goes down that road due to import hassles.

Looks like a solid start, nice machine.

Thanks :)
