Tomorrow we will weld the Flanger to the Toyota Housing also cleaning and painting the transmission and transfer.
Next week we will be fabricating the engine mounts.
 
The swap is paused because I am getting 12x1.25x50mm bolts :confused:, the issue is that they have to be rated 12.9... I requested a friend to fabricate them for me... These bolts hold the flywheel to the motor :flush:

For now I am breaking my head with the gearing, this is what I have so far:

- Transmission code H151F
Gear Ratios
- 1st 4.081:1
- 2nd Gear 2.294:1
- 3rd Gear 1.490:1
- 4th Gear 1.000:1
- 5th Gear 0.881:1

- Reverse Gear 4.313:1

Dual Range Trans Dual range
- Transfer Gear ratio - High 1.000:1
- Transfer Gear ratio - Low 2.488:1

Torque Peak on 6BT is: 1600RPM (440 lb-ft)
I would love to cruise at peak torque to have all the power.

33" tyres + Diff 4.10 + 5th gear + 1600rpm = 71KPH+++
33" tyres + Diff 4.10 + 5th gear + 1800rpm = 80KPH
33" tyres + Diff 4.10 + 5th gear + 2000rpm = 89KPH
33" tyres + Diff 4.10 + 5th gear + 2200rpm = 97KPH

I will be using 4K RPM springs with 60LBS+ valve springs to overpass other vehicles
Unfortunately at torque peak I will be cruising at 80KPH :rolleyes: Ideally I would like to run at 100KPH @ 1600RPM.

Maybe getting a taller 5th gear from 0.881 to 0.736:
5th Gear Ratio Change suitable for Landcruiser HDJ VDJ 76 78 79
This will give me 96KPH @ 1600RPM :D hoping the 5th gear wont explode.

But that will be on the long run... For now I will only consider to switch to 3.73 diffs. IDK... maybe some bigger tires as well

Did the vdj7* series have H151? I think they use H150?

The terrain tamer ratio change won't work in both because the H151 and H150 have different 1st and 2nd gear ratios. The cluster gear won't interchange.
 
Engine Startup:


It is very smooth, sound is good on low-mid revs.
Regarding weight... the difference is 200lbs between 1HDT and the 6BT.


Sounds pretty sweet!

I don't think 200lbs is a huge weight penalty with the right springs.
Extra weight is equivalent to having a grown man sitting on the hood
 
I would seriously look into using an nv4500. That was the 6bt stock tranny and now there are kits to adapt it to the stock transfer case. Or you can follow this thread that has the plans in it and make your own adapter.

I will stick to the H151 for now, if it blows I'll eventually switch to a nv4500. I have plenty of faith on the H151:steer:

I am sure their 5th gear fits the H151 (had a call with them), I am not 100% why does it says VDJ on their page, I think there were some VDJ70s with H151 behind it but I am not 100% sure.

It fit like a fat woman's pantie, everything is tight. I will need 1 and a half inch of lift on the Body, the housing of the engine touches the body and that defitely will create vibration and weird sounds.

The Toyota AC plate/mount has been done as well under Alternator.
So far so good, the best part of all this is that the transfer and gear box maintanin their OEM location/potition.
The starter motor was touching the frame, we turned the starter to face down instead and it fitted perfectly.

Does not looks like... But the hood closes just fine with small clearance on the intake.
 
Update:

Encountered a problem... The down side pipe of the Radiator hits the AC compressor.

I took the radiator to a different shop to make the entire bottom tank and move the tube away from the AC compressor (more to the corner).

The space between the AC radiator and the engine is also very small, the water radiator will fit but I don't know about the Electric Fans.

The radiator bottom tank should be finish today, I'll post some pics on the results.
I might have to order thinner Radiator Fans for this application but let's see how it goes.

Due to the lack of space on the front we will put the intercooler on the top.
 
Most use some sort of accessory rail to move the AC above alternator. That will fix your lower inlet on rad. Looks like you have the same issue I’m having on my 75 not having enough room for fans. I’m debating redoing my motor mounts to move engine back a bit or hack up the rad support and move the rad forward.
Have you put the hood back on you see if it will close with the intake horn sticking up? That’s another issue for me also.
 
Hey, I have the NV4500, 4.11's and 38's, I would reccomend 3.73's for smaller than 38's and highway driving, especially as the NV4500 has an OD 5th gear of like 0.73 ratio.

Also a similar top mount IC, just wanted to leave room for the front rad and keep mud and bugs out of it. You might want to get the valve cover with the oil fill on top off of a 4BT, and the timing cover fill block off to give you more room.

Sorry if its been said, did you take care of the KDP?

Yes you are right I will move the oil fill cover to the front, that will make things easier for sure.
No idea if the KDP has been fixed for this engine... However I bought the fix/kit when I was in Vegas couple of months ago, got it for $15 from a shop.

The space between the Engine and the Radiator is very small. My two 12 inch electric fans work/fit, but I will switch to a 16 inch heavy duty SPAL fan with a 8-10 inch low profile radiator fan combination.
I would like to have the 16 inch since they cool V8s, plus I forgot to mention... My 12 inch fans are chinese (I think) and I don't want to risk anything here.

Nice work on that adapter. I just hope that big engine doesn't tear that transmission and transfer case to shreds.

I am raising the body 1.5 inches with bushings to be able to close the hood. 🔧
If I were you, I would somehow move the Radiator forward 🧐 moving the engine again is a heck of a work to do again.
