What's up guys this is my first time posting here, I've been a lurker since I purchased my FJ80. Unfortunately this weekend I totaled my beloved FJ80. Now I'm left with a vehicle that is inoperable. My main reason for posting would just to ask how much a used engine/trans/driveline go for? The chassis has almost 300k on it, but the previous owner had rebuilt the engine. It runs very strong and had no leaks prior to the accident. What do you guys think my best case scenario would be? I will get pictures up tomorrow to see if I can post it as a part out.
If any of you are curious I live in Orange County California.

How totaled is totaled? This is a very vague term. Post up some pics so we can see.

As for the value of the motor/trans/transfer case that is all over the board. Unfortunately, probably not as much as you are hoping.

Put up some pictures and you will get some more specific answers. You may do o.k. on a total part out if you are up for it but I think that guys that do that for a living earn it all. A lot of work, but might get you on track for the replacement truck.

Check out cruiserparts.net for a ballpark. If I'm selling a used part I'll usually go some percentage below their pricing unless it was a real pain in the neck to pull. You also have to consider condition and wear. 300k on the ticker applies to all the parts.

If/when you decide to part it out I will be your first customer

rear defog switch with 6" pigtail
fuse box cover for dash

I have parted out a couple, the biggest issue for me was always space to store stuff until it sells. You can learn a lot about one by tearing it apart

Hope you are ok in the accident. If you decide to part it out I am looking for the center console with arm rest. Thanks

Indeed glad you are ok. You are ok, right?

What do you think it was worth before the accident?

Exactly. "Totaled" totaled, or "Insurance totaled"?

:hhmm:

i part them out a good bit, not for a living but often enough. it is hard work, takes a lot of time and you need a bunch of space. if i wasnt trying to maintain my daily and restore 2 other 80s i would never deal with parting them out but its my cheapest option.

Still say we need pics. I've seen "totaled" 80s that are in better condition than my 93.

I had this discussion with my 15 year old son the other day. It doesn't take much to "total" an 80 series according to an insurance company. I've also seen guys roll an 80 and drive it home.

Thanks for all the replies fellas! Yes I'm ok, just sore. I went to get some pictures after school and I will shortly post some!

Glad you are ok. I agree with the comments about the difference between insurance totaled and functionally not working.
Re: Engine, etc: just paid 2800 for a reman to put in mine. It was sort of hard to find one, most people didn't have cores, even.

Here are some of the pics of most of the damage

I'd be interested in the roof rack, any chance you could find out how much with shipping?

Damage multiplier strikes again!

That'll buff out!

I can sell you a new DM when you have finished the buffing. I might even throw in some stock lights....

damn that axle took a hit
