I'm about to prepare some hardware to take it to the platers. For some parts I can't find how it was treated originally. I thought I'd start this thread and try to make it a reference for everyone. When people have feedback I'm planning to edit this first post. I'll start with the axles and suspension as I'm working on that at the moment.

BTW I'm talking 1962, but info on changes earlier and later are welcome.

AXLES
  • nuts for differential cover and carrier - cad plated and black paint
  • Dust deflector on ingoing flange - cad plated? (new OEM part is zinc plated)
  • Lug nuts - cad plated? early brochure shows black?
  • Felt seal retainer on steering knuckle (inside drum) - cad plated
  • Knuckle wiper retainer - cad plated

SUSPENSION
  • Shackle - Black or cad plated?
  • Shackle nuts - Cad plated?
  • leaf spring pin - Cad plated?
  • U Bolts - cad plated and black paint.

ENGINE F135
  • Head - I cant find a chip of paint on the head. was it blank steel originaly, or Black?
  • Engine block - black
  • nuts and bolts - all cad plated
  • hose clamps - clear/zinc plated
  • Firewall bracket for throttle - Clear/zinc plated.
  • throttle levers and links below manifolds - cad plated?
  • Oil filler cap - cad plated and black paint
  • bowden cables in engine room - blank zinc plated
  • Fuel and vacuum pipes - bare copper
  • Coil - green (color code?)
  • starter - green
  • generator - green
  • Distributor - green

more to follow, additions are welcome

distributor would also be listed as the same green as the coil, starter and generator.

what's a bowden cable?

The cables, hose clamps, and firewall bracket for throttle were all clear cad/zinc plated. Most of the rest was yellow cad/zinc

Were all early distributors green or just the early FJ25's?

Fuel and vacuum lines were bare copper.

A lot of the hardware was plated and then painted pver once assembled. Things like diff nuts, u bolts, and oil filler cap come to mind.

Updated.
Dizzy is green here too.

@cult45 is gonna love this:)

What about the two vacuum tubes for the transfer case? clear or yellow?

And the throttle pedal?

I didn't realize the rabbit hole had gotten so big!

What's the ND #tag for the dizzies with the green paint?

I'm gonna have to have another look at my stash of early gas pedals. IIRC, all of mine are clear zinc.
