Took a drive up to Mingus Mtn at 7202 ft for a picnic. Nice day and about time the 40 gets more run time. My next challenge is to figure out why my carb cooling fan has stopped running? And why my heater open valve on the firewall does not want to seem to close. Hot feet in the summer is no fun! A pleasant day spent outside and I really can't believe how well she runs. Been a long journey but such a great one-looking for another

Lubricated shaft going into heater core valve on firewall and worked back and forth. Hopefully now it will remain closed. Anyone else have this issue?

I just installed my rear mat from City Racer, excellent product and probably better than the original. Trims easily too as I do have some mounting points for my CCOT Bestop rear bench. @Racer65 thanks for a great product!

So I had to find all of the stuff for my carb cooling fan which one of the PO's had removed for whatever reason. I found all the stuff and installed it like two years ago and it worked just fine until just about a little over a month ago. Stopped coming on and I have done some hotter temp runs but yet no fan coming on when I shut her down. I have added a OEM 4 core radiator but other than that no changes. Anyone else with a '78 that has experienced this and where should I start to diagnose and fix? Doing a camping trip with her this coming Friday and Saturday so not super critical but any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe the fuse they hid on the inside of the firewall?

Didnt even know there was one there-where should I look?

Someone should chime in because I haven't found mine. Search the cooling fan thread. It's somewhere up by the heater around the little control box above the gas pedal? Just wrapped up and inconspicuous by what I've read. Five amp if I remember correctly. Sorry for being vague but I have been researching cooling fan troubleshooting myself. Good luck, beautiful cruiser.

Thanks again, will get in there later and post pics too.....................

Fixed carb cooling fan, standard size 5A inline fuse behind fan shroud below passenger side dash. Might have to evacuate here due to rapidly advancing forest fire so will find out when I drive her out. Wish us luck up here in Prescott area

Awesome!
I can't wait to get into mine and see if that's he reason why as well.

Yours is looking very nice.

hope all went well with the fire.

@alabamatacomaguy and @Vossie thanks guys, I had hoped by posting up these pics folks would better know where to find the fuse and what it looks like. As for the fire, it is like 8 miles away, really hope they can gain some ground on it today. We still haven't had our Monsoon come so it is windy and dry-perfect storm for fire! Say a prayer for us up here in Prescott area.

Latest is that firefighters have saved town of Mayer, but overall fire is only like 1% contained:(

Good karma and thoughts sent your way, be safe.

So I just found two pieces for my '78 that have been missing since Who knows how long. The two side lower engine splash guards, L and R. Thanks to Kevin at country cruisers! One finished, other ready for paint

Easy telling I am single-I put parts wherever I want to, love it!!! Actually my girlfriend wants me to find another to re-do. I think she might be a keeper

Finally added the OEM "jar" that holds Winshield washer fluid and also radiator fluid over flow. I also re-used the old pump motor and it works after 39 years! Impressive-however fluid is not getting to upper nozzle above windshield. I know the line connection is intact to that nozzle as when I replaced the windshield to cowl gasket and made sure it was intact and connected. Is it possible I have an obstruction at this little juncture about 3 inches past where the clear line attaches to the bottom of the reservoir? Anyone experienced this? I have heard of folks buying a new nozzle for the hood. Ideas?

Just a quick FWIW tip about the old weatherstrip removal. Scrape off the oldies with a gasket scraper. All the old weatherstrip and adhesive remains you just get a cheap wire brush wheel set from Harbor Freight that you can put into the chuck of your electric drill and they will make short work of all the remaining crap and leave a really good clean metal surface for the weatherstrip adhesive to stick to.

I did clean it up very well when I replaced the old one and made sure the tube for the fluid was intact and connected. Maybe I have a blockage at the juncture spot in the picture? Anyone have experience with re-routing off original tube and connecting to a new nozzle on the hood?

I could be wrong, but I think your splash shields are for an earlier model year. Back when I was going thru the sorting of '72 vs. '78 pieces I came to realize there were subtle differences between a number of them -- splash shields included.
The '78 shield is on the right, '72 is on the left.

The driver side (smaller shield -- dont have those pictured as I only had the earlier style) will still fit and I used it -- it has the cutout for the brake line traveling down on the driver side.

I am also putting thought into my windshield/washer setup. I suspect the metal tube inside the frame has seen its better days, my plan was to run a new piece of clear tubing thru the frame (much like the metal pipe) or simply route it to the hood like you have been thinking. Have not decided 100% either way but if the tubing thru the windshield frame route gives me much trouble the hood will be the way to go.
