@Katsarata that is just what I was wondering! Did you also use the 3M black adhesive? Will post up pics of the goop I bought.

With the new OEM door seal handy and the door surface nice and clean I am wondering if my 3M black goop should be applied a little at a time as I move along? Also the edge that will contact the door with adhesive appears to be slightly beveled, how much 3M adhesive should I use? This is all new so if others have done this I would love to hear from you.

I put the door on a table and used a rolling stool to do the weatherstrip. Clean the rubber and the door with cleaner to remove any powder or grease. Test fit the rubber. Find a good place to start with some kind of reference. Add adhesive to rubber and to door (6-8 inch section), a thin spread of adhesive. Too much and it will squish out. Let it air dry for a few minutes, then put them together. ONLY do about 6-8 inches at a time! Only do about 6-8 inches at a time!

Some people put tape on the door to prevent excess. I didnt find that necessary, but if you are messy then it may be a good idea. I have some pictures in my build thread.

I use blue painter's masking tape to hold the weatherstrips in place while the adhesive sets. Especially useful on the corners.

See you Tuesday Tom.

Thanks guys, what do you use to apply the goop?? Yes Mark, see you Tuesday-will be there by noon, maybe a little early. Any good places to eat nearby in Burbank? BTW emac your thread is great and I really like the olive color!!!!

Did OEM door seals today, the black goop is messy but they came out good as the fitment is excellent.....Now to address color differences on the vinyl with a vinyl paint and of course the wonderful holes cut in the door covers as well................. Thinking speakers or grill covers?

Ok so door seals are on!!! Now I have another dilemma; door panels! The 40 was originally Freeborn Red and manu date 10/78. The PO had lightly rolled it on its driver side and so you can notice the inside of driver side door is green; door was replaced with one from a green one with a much lighter gray door panel as you can see. My original seats are also the darker gray color vinyl as is the jumper seats in pic below. I plan on [painting the door panels to match. I believe they should be the darker gray?? What do the experts think? I will also repair(cover) where a PO butchered the panel by cutting away for a speaker. I plan on using speaker grill covers and @GA Architect, Rick is sending me some thick poly vapor seals as well. I like the lighter color gray but want to keep the vehicle as correct as possible. My other dilemma is that sometime down the road I want to redo my OEM front seats and rear jumper seats but I believe the covers are only available in the lighter gray color is this true?? What would the experts do?? Input appreciated.

Geez Rick those look fantastic. Any idea what our rigs may have come with? All I can find for replacement front seat covers and jumper seat covers is the lighter gray like my one non original door has. I will paint my door panels the correct color, probably darker like yours, but when comes time to redo my front and rear seats I believe all I will be able to find will be the light gray covers, am I right on that?

Cruiser corps is referring to the two colors as dark graphite grey or black, I thought the two colors were both shades of grey?? Maybe @JohnnyC can chime in on this as well??

My OEM door panels are NLA, thus I had to purchase the newer and lighter OEM units and color to my liking. Here is a side by side comparision of the two OEM colors.

I was trying to match the OEM dark gray with a SEM vinyl paint. The photo below shows the OEM light gray units (left), the SEM 17223 Very Dark Pewter (middle - color matched per their provided color chart), and the original OEM units I took off (right).

As you can see above, the SEM Very Dark Pewter isn't such a good match....*sigh*.....Thus I went to Vato-Zone for some Duplicolor black vinyl paint. This is what I ended up with.

That looks like a very good match Rick. All of my stuff came with what appears to be the same color as what you took off-aside from the mismatched replacement door with the light gray vinyl that I am going to paint to match passenger side dark vinyl in my pic. I will probably spray them both the color you used. Then, to find some speaker grills to cover up one of the PO's unfortunate "improvements" thanks bud!

Funny thing is I like the light gray but originality is more important to me.............................

Going to go the "dark" route, thanks Rick for posting up your pics..................

Doors almost there, and yes, pics are coming! As I have never had the hardtop on my rig this is all new to me. I have read many threads on opinions about the gaskets, I have used OEM on my front doors and wondering if anyone has opinions about the others required???? Also, I will post up pics of all the parts I have and hopefully some of you will chime in if I am missing anything necessary in the install??? I am also consulting SOR's checklist for install parts needed. I plan on putting on my front hard doors first or is it better to start with side panels?Opinions appreciated-thanks all!

SOR lists front door corner pads, are these necessary if I am using the OEM door seals??

Door prep in full swing, now time for Ricks vapor seals and freshly sprayed door panels..................
